McGehee awaited Harding at War Memorial Stadium. Both teams knew going into this matchup that the winner will have earned the championship.
The Wildcats had dominated the 2-A conference play. Harding had ripped through every opponent that had lined up against them every Friday night. The state championship game was expected to be different. However, that would not be the case, the Wildcats’ offense would not have any trouble lighting up the scoreboard.
Harding would defeat the Owls of McGehee 71-44 and give the scoreboard at War Memorial Stadium a workout. In the process, quarterback Caden Sipe would put up some impressive numbers. Sipe passed for 430 yards and eight touchdowns. He was able to make key throws and extend drives when the Wildcats needed it the most. However, he did a terrific job of being able to extend drives using his legs.
Both teams have the potential to return to Little Rock next season for the state championships. Playoff runs for McGehee and Harding should not be unexpected. However, the conference can be a nightmare to attempt to navigate. Congratulations to the Harding Wildcats in winning another state championship!
