The Wildcats always seem to be a contender in the increasingly difficult 7-A West Conference. We are going to examine the season the Wildcats had as well as look at the key players that Har-Ber leaned on this season. We will also examine some of the players that will play a big role in getting the Wildcats back to the playoffs next season.
In a difficult 2020 season, the Wildcats managed to get some momentum going and make a playoff run. Har-Ber has some talented players that got momentum going and aided in getting the Wildcats into the playoffs. We saw the Har-Ber start to lean heavily on the ground game to take control of the momentum in each game. Losing Memphis commit, Errington McRae Errington McRae 6'3" | 235 lbs | TE Har-Ber | 2021 State AR forced Har-Ber to keep the ground game a big focus of the offense this season and led to the discovery of an excellent running back.
The 2020 season as an excellent one for sophomore running back Hudson Brewer. Brewer rushed for 1,579 yards, 16 touchdowns, and averaged over 131 yards per game. Brewer is a patient runner and has the speed to make defenders look bad when he hits the hole and accelerates. Brewer will give Har-Ber a steady running back over the next few seasons. He will have the opportunity to continue the progress he has made and catch the eyes of plenty of college scouts as well.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcats will depend on Malachi Cramer to continue to improve in the defensive secondary. Cramer racked up 38 tackles last season and has the potential to become a defensive back that opposing offenses will want to avoid. The Wildcats have always had a strong defense and the 2021 season should be no exception.
Har-Ber finished the 2020 season with a 5-7 season and a victory over Fort Smith Northside in the playoffs. The Wildcats would lose to eventual state champion Bryant. However, the Wildcats learned that the nucleus is there for a solid season in 2021 and the talent is there to challenge for a 7-A West title.
