Over the past five years, the Bryant Hornets have started to dominate the largest classification in the state of Arkansas. Bryant was able to capture a third consecutive state championship and, in the process, form a dynasty in central Arkansas. The victory over North Little Rock.
The Hornets used a good mix of the run and the pass to defeat the Charging Wildcats of North Little Rock. Bryant got a spectacular performance from running back [player_tooltip player_id="74990" first="Tanner" last="Anderson"]. Anderson rushed for an impressive 146 yards and tacked on two touchdowns in the victory over North Little Rock. Anderson was the workhorse on the ground for the Hornets. The championship game caps off what has been a solid for career for Anderson with the Hornets.
Bryant’s offense jumped out early on North Little Rock. The Hornets reeled off 20 straight unanswered points. Bryant’s mix of the run and the pass kept the North Little Rock defense in a position where they were unable to focus on one aspect of the offense. Between Austin Ledbetter connecting with his receivers and [player_tooltip player_id="74990" first="Tanner" last="Anderson"] keeping the ball moving on the ground, the Bryant Hornets were able to do just enough to capture a third consecutive state championship.
Credit must be given to an impressive North Little Rock team as well. Charging Wildcats’ running back Fred O’Donald was able to punch in two touchdowns and pick up 129 yards rushing. North Little Rock kept the Bryant air attack from doing too much damage. The game stayed a close contest, and a 27-17 final was not something that many observers predicted going into this contest.
With a senior class that includes Austin Ledbetter, [player_tooltip player_id="74983" first="Hayden" last="Schrader"], and [player_tooltip player_id="74990" first="Tanner" last="Anderson"] it will be interesting to see what the Hornets can do for an encore next season. The only thing certain about the 7-A conference in Arkansas is that it is always changing. Coaches are always on the move and players will move. The 2020 season was a different one in the state of Arkansas, but the result was the same. Congratulations to the Bryant Hornets!
