7A Football: Round 2 Surprise Predictions

As the playoffs get even deeper throughout the state of Georgia, the match ups between teams will only improve. With that being said, during round 2 of the playoffs, there is often times a few surprise teams that slip by, who many would have not initially projected to make it that far. As this week’s games approach us, we wanted to take some time to point out a few teams that you should keep an eye on, and who we think might find themselves in the 3rd round, after surprise wins in round 2. To start, while Denmark has had a decent season in their own right, many people may not expect them to be able to put up a game good enough to defeat Collins Hill within the second round. We on the other hand, feel that this can be a surprise win for them. Last week, Denmark defeated Discovery 63-0, and looks to continue its dominance on both sides of the football, regardless of who is on Collins Hill’s roster. Players such as NC State QB Commit, [player_tooltip player_id="33673" first="Aaron" last="McLaughlin"], and WR Teddy Davenport will assure that there are points on the score board that can compete with the likes of Collins Hill’s team. Their defense will also be looking to wreck havoc, as they are coming off a huge shutout. Secondly, we also feel that North Gwinnett, who sits at 9-3, can pick up a surprise win this week against West Forsyth. West Forsyth, who has had a great season themselves are expected by many to win this match up. Even though this may be the favored opinion for many, we feel that the Bulldogs have the firepower to compete well within this game. Offensive weapons such as Ashton Wood, Seth Anderson, [player_tooltip player_id="33727" first="Bobby" last="Ezzard"], and even [player_tooltip player_id="33661" first="Barrett" last="Carter"] (who has had plenty of success on both sides of the ball this year) will be looking to put up plenty of points. Defensively, with [player_tooltip player_id="33661" first="Barrett" last="Carter"] at LB, their team will be able to efficiently hold West Forsyth’s offense to limited rushing yards. The last surprise win that you can look out for tomorrow will come from East Coweta High School. We mentioned this before, due to how shocked we were by how well rounded their offense and defense has played this year, and we are sticking with it. We feel that due to the Indians success in the passing game, as well as their large amount of success pounding the football, they can make it to the 3rd round. With this being said, Parkview is on upset alert if East Coweta can slow down [player_tooltip player_id="33667" first="Cody" last="Brown"] and [player_tooltip player_id="33854" first="Tyler" last="Curtis"]. In order to do this, Chase Lewis, and Christian Richardson will have to step it up even more for the Indians. If they can manage to do this, look for this to be one of the games of the week as well.
