Dozens of the best high school football prospects in Georgia arrived this past weekend for the annual Georgia Elite Classic showcase and for the seniors it was their last chance to compete before February’s final National Signing Day.
Players were divided between grade levels, went through testing and participated in two days of practice prior to Sunday’s games. The juniors played the seniors, the sophomores against the freshmen and the event served as a stepping stone for many players heading into their offseason training regiments.
Here’s a look at the best seniors at the three-day event:
Jonathan Brown - DE - The most outstanding player for the senior class at this 2020 event, Brown (6’3”, 230) nearly singlehandedly won the game for his side. Having already caused havoc in the pass rush (finished with a game-high 2.5 sacks), Brown’s fourth-quarter interception and subsequent 33-yard return for a score gave the seniors a 24-21 lead.

Brown finished with 4.5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss and was difficult to block during the entire contest. Currently holds one offer from Troy and could be a very good find for a program late in the recruiting process.

[player_tooltip player_id="33791" first="Dwayne" last="Johnson"] - LB — Johnson used this event to possibly give himself a bump in his potential college opportunities. A three-star recruit, Johnson finished with a game-high 8.5 tackles along with three tackles for loss. Johnson (6’3”, 220) recently decommitted from Army and was extremely impressive in his pursuit angles and tackling ability. Holds offers from Arkansas, Kansas State and Memphis and could see new options open up in the near future.
Mekhi Mews - WR/ATH — One of the more explosive offensive players of the weekend was Mews. Finished with a team-high three receptions for 66 yards and showed his playing making ability when he took a short screen pass and outran several defensive backs with Power 5 offers. Despite his measurables (5’9”, 175), Mews was impressive with his footwork in and out of breaks and showed elite speed with the ball. Has received numerous Division 2 and FCS offers and is another player who could be a diamond in the rough.
Christian Lett - RB — If Mews wasn’t the most explosive senior, Lett would likely be the next candidate. Lett finished with a game-high 76 rushing yards on eight carries (9.5 average) and showed off his speed on a 52-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Has the size (6’, 200) to play at the next level and has the foot speed in the hole to take advantage of his opportunities when they arise. Has drawn attention from Army.
