There were a number of games that took place throughout the day on Thanksgiving Eve. Whether it was a traditional rivalry game or a game that came about due to schedule openings, there was a lot of excitement as players and teams finished off this 2020 season filled with unknowns. Let’s take a look at some of the winners from Wednesday’s action.
<strong>Rahway: </strong>Rahway finished the season with its fourth straight win and a 5-1 overall record following a 21-14 victory over St. Joseph (Met.). Nasir Arribas threw for three touchdowns. He found Kyle Hall a 32-yard score, Mekhi McFadden on a 24-yard TD and Amajuwan Murray on a 22-yard strike for six.
<strong>Northern Highlands Defense: </strong>Northern Highlands is often a team known for its offense and scoring points. On Thanksgiving Eve, however, Northern Highlands didn’t allow very much in a 14-0 shutout of Old Tappan. Ian Langan finished with two interceptions, John Haemmerle had one and Nick Lapi had a sack. Northern Highlands quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="28051" first="Enzo" last="Arjona"] threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the team finished 5-2. It was Northern Highlands victory in the series since 1999.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27942" first="Teddy" last="Gouldin"], Bernards:</strong> Gouldin threw for four touchdowns as Bernards ended the year at 8-1 and on an eight-game winning streak following a 49-6 thrashing of Immaculata on Thanksgiving Eve.
<strong>Shawn Martin, Scotch Plains-Fanwood: </strong>Martin found the end zone on runs of 12, 50 and 70 yards in Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s 35-7 victory over Colonia to end the season at 5-2.
<strong>Nick Fabrizzio, Southern: </strong>Fabrizzio finished with over 100 yards and scored on runs of 58 and 54 yards as Southern took down Pinelands, 36-15, on Wednesday, finishing the year 5-3.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27997" first="Charlie" last="Barth"], New Providence: </strong>Barth and the Pioneers finished the season at 8-1 after defeating county rival Gov. Livingston, 35-14. Barth, a junior and one of the state’s top running backs, put a stamp on his season with four touchdowns – three rushing and one receiving. He broke for a 51-yard scoring run and caught a 31-yard TD pass from Dean Licari, also adding TD runs in short-yard situations. Barth concluded the season with 25 rushing touchdowns and over 1,500 yards on the ground.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27891" first="Nasir" last="Robinson"], Penns Grove: </strong>Robinson, a Navy commit, put the finishing touches on a great high school career with a record-setting night in Penns Grove’s 20-14 victory over West Deptford. Robinson finished with 115 yards on 23 carries, scoring on a 1-yard run. He also converted a two-point conversion. Robinson totaled 421 points in his career, which broke a 2018 school record of 418. He was also a touchdown short of tying the school’s all-time touchdown record of 65. Robinson helped Penns Grove to a 6-3 final record, and winners of the last four. Penns Grove did not lose in November.
<strong>St. Augustine:</strong> St. Augustine accomplished its marquee win of the 2020 season after taking down Lenape, the sixth-ranked team in the state, 27-20 on Thanksgiving Eve. Lenny Dolson sealed the game with a sack on Lenape quarterback Brady Long in the final seconds. Trey McLeer carried the load on the ground game with 93 yards and a score, while [player_tooltip player_id="27984" first="Kanye" last="Udoh"] finished with two TDs and 53 yards on 17 carries. Franklin Simms added 69 yards on 10 carries for St. Augustine. The Hermits finished the season on a high note after two tough back-to-back losses to Williamstown and Holy Spirit.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27865" first="Audric" last="Estime"], St. Joseph (Mont.): </strong>Estime capped off an amazing career at St. Joseph with a 217-yard performance in the team’s 20-9 win over DePaul. In a battle between ranked teams, Estime ended arguably one of the most impressive seasons in high school history, considering the competition. He broke for a 71-yard run and finished the season with over 2,000 all-purpose yards. Estime will play at Michigan State next year alongside teammate and star St. Joseph offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="27863" first="Geno" last="VanDeMark"].
