As the regular season comes to an end, and the playoffs are now approaching, we will continue to bring you the newsmakers throughout the state of Florida. Each and every week, there are so impressive athletes doing some amazing things – and we will bring those memories to you. Remember, we try to include everyone possible. To ensure your top performer gets listed, just e-mail us at: Floridakids1@aol.com. Today, we check in on the athletes who made an impact this past weekend. Gainesville Eastside transfer Arnold Strachan came up with an interception that led to a 12-yard scoring run by sophomore Kyree Edwards in a 37-7 win by Gainesville. Trey Wainwright threw the ball just 16 times, yet he piled up a school-record 336 passing yards and five touchdowns. Following a 10-0 regular season last year, Niceville capped off a 7-0 regular season with a 42-7 win at Pace Senior Jason Deal connecting with junior Trenton Hall for a touchdown that sparked Navarre (6-0) to a 30-13 win. Hall would later catch a second touchdown from senior quarterback Zach Marquis. Junior running back Kenon Bell scored a season-high three touchdowns as Tenoroc rolled over Lake Region. Junior DJ Williams scored two more touchdowns, and sophomore Kris Hunter had another. Lake Gibson won a thrilling 34-27 decision over Winter Haven on a 63-yard touchdown strike from [player_tooltip player_id="50149" first="Logan" last="Hackett"] to [player_tooltip player_id="49990" first="Sam" last="McCall"]. Hackett finished the game 15 of 22 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Bartow (8-0) quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="50157" first="Lin" last="Johnson"] threw just six passes in the first half, completing three, and all three completions went for touchdowns. In a 42-10 win over rival Lake Wales. Lakeland Christian scored early and often on its way to a convincing 49-7 win as touchdown runs from Ben Oxendine (53 yards), Dre Hudson (1 yard), and Cori Davis (9 yards) sparked the team. Davenport Ridge Community senior running back Beau Herrington, who went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season in only six games, rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns, including a season-long 75-yard touchdown on the last play of the game in a win. Pensacola Booker T. Washington football earned their first playoff win since 2006, defeating Milton 29-20. Sparked by the final score of the game, a remarkable reverse flea flicker that resulted in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ammiel Steele to Greg Bullard. Bradenton Southeast senior quarterback Maleek Huggins scampered 13 yards for the score and Carlos Aragon added the all-important extra point for a one-point lead and what turned out to be a 25-24 upset victory over previously unbeaten Manatee. [player_tooltip player_id="32845" first="Steffan" last="Johnson"] scored twice on the ground and finished with a game-high 167 rushing yards, including a long run of 70 yards in the first half to lead Venice to a win Getting two touchdown passes from quarterback Ryan Browne to wide receiver Jaron Glover, Sarasota Riverview came away with a win over Sarasota. Florida High (7-0) opened the playoffs as the offense evenly distributed the wealth as six players cracked the end zone. The bulk of the points came on the ground. Dohntay Williams and Jalon Carter each had two rushing touchdowns. Two Marcus Peterson touchdowns helped break open a tight game for Lake City Columbia in a win. Ty Baxter finished the night with 73 yards rushing, while Aaron Wynn added another 77 yards on 12 carries and a TD as St. Augustine (6-2) rolled. Quarterback Sammy Edwards completed 10 of 11 pass attempts for 134 yards. Conner Nobles rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns as the West Nassau Warriors closed their regular season on a winning note. Chaz Davis also scored twice with 168 all-purpose yards. Jaheim Odom returned an interception for a touchdown to spark the Jacksonville Atlantic Coast Stingrays. Arthur Walker rushed for two touchdowns to lead the ground assault. Tampa Hillsborough needed a spark and got one from junior athlete Jordaan Bailey, who amassed 213 yards from scrimmage in a win over Plant City. Sparked by the play of [player_tooltip player_id="32727" first="Jaxson" last="Rivera"] and senior Tre Gallimore, Zephyrhills won the 63rd edition of the 9-Mile War with Dade City Pasco. With just 57 seconds to go before halftime and the teams locked in a 7-7 battle, Wekiva’s Tamareon Foster broke through and blocked Apopka’s punt, and teammate Luther Johnson returned it 12 yards for the win. Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley (5-3) won 35-3 at home against Harmony (3-4).
