New Field, Same Great Team: Rocori Rolls over Hutchinson
COLD SPRING– Cold Spring lived up to its name on Thursday night in the first game on the brand new turf at Spartan Field. It was indeed a cold one for me to spend time in the cold bleachers (which is why I only spent half the game in them!). Rocori has played all of their games this season away from Spartan Field, playing at neutral sites and always on the road, anxiously waiting to get a chance to play on their excellent new field turf. They got that chance tonight and made their edition of “The Greatest Show on Turf” at Spartan Field in their massive win over arch-rival Hutchinson in this ranked matchup.
FIRST QUARTER
The first quarter took a trip to the turnover city, as each team lost a few balls in the jitters in the first quarter. Rocori QB Camdyn Bauer threw a deep ball that winded up in the hands of a receiver that was not his primary target on the play in WR Luke Humbert Luke Humbert ATH Rocori | 2021 State MN , who grabbed the tipped ball for the Spartans first touchdown of the night deep into the end of the first quarter. Rocori 7, Hutchinson 0. Hutchinson had their chances to score, but the Rocori defense stuffed the Tigers on a fourth down play.
SECOND QUARTER
QB Camdyn Bauer didn’t have to wait long for his second passing touchdown. Around the 10 minute mark, Bauer found WR Drew Schneider for an 8-yard pass. Rocori 14, Hutchinson 0.
After plenty of back and forth, the Spartans got very active on their drive with RB Brady Linn. After busting loose for a 65 yard gain, Linn found his home in the end zone for the first and only time of the evening, despite rushing for over 100 yards in the entirety of the game. Rocori 21, Hutchinson 0. Halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Midway thru the third quarter, Bauer again found his Spartans in the red zone. He made it look easy squeezing into the endzone for a 6-yard rushing touchdown, which would give the Spartans quite the cushion in a game I think we all thought would be a lot closer. Rocori 28, Hutchinson 0.
FOURTH QUARTER
It almost was a scoreless quarter for both teams until Aaron Elliott Aaron Elliott 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Hutchinson | 2022 State MN broke some tackles for a 19-yard rushing touchdown and allowed the Rocori Spartans to maybe not get donuts tomorrow after pitching an almost shutout for 47 minutes and 40 seconds.
Up Next: Tomorrow, we will tell you who the “Big Dogs of the Game” were in this Class 4A rivalry.
