Lake Oswego High School
Lake Oswego, Oregon. Class 6A Three Rivers League Special District 5 Head coach- Steve Coury (28th year) Offensive System- Multiple Spread Defensive System- 3-5 After a close loss to Central Catholic in the Class 6A Finals in ’19, Coach Coury and the Lakers football program are looking to develop some younger talent and find their way back to their familiar high standing in the Oregon state rankings. Here is a list of the top Sophomore and Junior players on the L.O squad. Class of 2022 Juniors Jordan Taft- Strong Safety/Linebacker- 5’11 185 lbs. Junior. Class of 2022. Jordan is a naturally skilled defensive back who can fly to the ball. He is also used as a linebacker in the Lakers 5 LB sets. He is very instinctive and has considerable success diagnosing offensive plays at the line of scrimmage. Good tackler and has pop in his hits. Projects to be NAIA, Division 2-3 players in college. Strong upside development traits. Athletic, smart, instinctive, with quick hand and foot coordination. Garrett Roach- Wide Receiver/Defensive Back-6’0 175 lbs. Junior. Class of 2022 Roach is a great receiver, who has a knack for finding space and getting open in his routes. Does not possess ideal size yet, but still can grow into his body-frame. Great hands, quick speed, and elusive with the ball in his hands. He plays Cornerback on the defensive side of the ball and will start both ways in '21. Projects to be an NAIA, Division 2-3, FCS prospect. If he grows and produces on the field, he could maybe find himself a walk-on spot at an FBS school. Zach Mahan- Defensive End/ Linebacker- 6’0 230 lbs.- Junior. Class of 2022 Zach is a big, strong, physical edge player or linebacker who can play multiple positions on defense. Good feet, solid fluidity in his assignments, and still raw. Although already big and strong, Mahan could grow more into his frame and become a prototypical sized defender at the next level. Good tackler, solid hip movement, fast off the snap. He is currently looking at Division 2-3 schools, possibly NAIA to play in college. Projects as an FCS, Division 2-3, NAIA prospect. [player_tooltip player_id="28821" first="Julian" last="Lopez"]- Defensive End/Edge- 6’1 240 lbs. Junior. Class of 2022 Lopez is a solid edge/ defensive end who gets off the block quickly with an explosion. A highly gifted athlete who needs work in the classroom, Julian is full of potential. FBS skillset but will probably start the next level in Junior College or an NAIA school. High motor. Plays hard, practices full speed. Playmaker on defense. Good explosion off blocks, quick around the edge. Strong and fast with solid hip and foot coordination. Good hands. [player_tooltip player_id="28793" first="Ty" last="Miller"]- Fullback/Linebacker- 5’11 215 lbs. Junior. Class of 2022 Miller is a physical presence in the Lakers program. He plays and practices full boar and hits like a ton of bricks. Plays linebacker/safety and gets to the ball with consistency. Versatile athlete who can play multiple positions and adapt to any coaching scheme at the next level. Good feet. Quick and smart. Projects to be an FCS, Division 2-3, NAIA prospect with the potential to move up to FBS with a solid '21 season. Hayden Cavanaugh- Linebacker- 5’11 190. Junior. Class of 2022 Hayden is a raw player and still in early development but can make a big impact on the Lake Oswego defense in '21. Athletic, physical player who will bring a lunch pale mentality to the defense. Hard worker, much improved from last year. Projects to be an NAIA, Division 2-3, FCS prospect. Solid tackler, good movement, excellent ball skills. Above-average speed. Class of 2023 Sophomores- [player_tooltip player_id="28887" first="Jack" last="Layne"]- Quarterback- 6’2 193 lbs- Sophomore- Class of 2023. Jack and his twin brother Dylan are both standout athletes, who work extremely hard in the classroom and on the field. 4.2 GPA students. Long arms and legs, will probably continue to grow physically into their long body frames. Jack is a prototype pocket passing Quarterback, with Great arm, foot movement, reads coverages fast and well. Major upside developmentally, and would fit into any college program in the country that throws the ball on the regular. Projects to began Ivy League or FBS prospect. Smart, Hardworking tough kid. layer_tooltip player_id="28858" first="Dylan" last="Layne"]- Sophomore- Strong Safety/Linebacker-6'3 193 lbs. Class of 2023. As mentioned above, Dylan is a hard-working, well put together, overall solid athlete. Likes contact, plays hard, and outworks just about everyone. Good size, solid frame for development. Plays the hybrid strong safety/ outside linebacker position with instinct and guts. Quick feet, good hand-eye coordination. Good football player overall. Projects to go to an Ivy League school, FCS/FBS skillset. Participates in the year around camps with his twin brother Jack. [player_tooltip player_id="28882" first="Gabe" last="Olvera"]- Sophomore - Running Back/Defensive Back-5'9 170 lbs. Class of 2023 This dude can move. Olivera is a fast, quick-twitch running back with excellent vision and patience with the ball in his hands. A gifted athlete who continues to develop in the Lakers system on both sides of the ball. A dangerous playmaker in space, and a solid defender in coverage defensively. Will be the feature tailback in the Offense moving forward. Projects to play college in D2-3/FCS/NAIA. Possibly FBS with growth and development, on-field production. [player_tooltip player_id="28890" first="Austin" last="Leykam"]- Sophomore- Offensive Line/Defensive Line- 6'1 240 lbs. Class of 2023. Austin is an extraordinary prospect on the defensive side of the football. He has a high football IQ, loves, and studies the game. Good hands and foot movement allows him to get off blocks well in the trenches. Loves contact and plays hard with a high motor. Still growing in his body frame, he could easily become an FBS prospect in two years. Projects to play college in the Ivy League. 4.0 student. Or FBS/FCS. Henry Francis- Sophomore- Linebacker/Running Back -6'1 205 lbs. Class of 2023 Francis is a great all-around athlete and has the skillset and size to play FBS college football. He is still growing in his body frame and continues to develop physically. Ball skills, speed, hands are all solid. Excellent foot and hip movement. Could play FBS or FCS on either side of the ball. Major upside development traits. Good breakaway speed and dangerous in space. Plays hard and physical. High football IQ. Smart. Projects to be an FBS prospect. Zach Jarrett- Sophomore- Tight End/Linebacker- 6'2 190 lbs. Class of 2023 Another Lakers sophomore with high upside, Jarrett is still raw and developing physically, but has the skillset and ability to make plays. Multiple sport athlete who has amazing ball skills and athletic fluidity. Great Route runner, and can go up and get a jump 50/50 ball over defenders in one one-man matchups. Projects to play college in the FBS/FCS. Good speed and excellent hand and foot coordination. Playmaker. Thomas Rainey- Sophomore- Kicker/Athlete-6'1 200 lbs. Class of 2023 Coach Coury calls Rainey a "thick, well put together athlete who could play multiple positions" Thomas prefers to kick but remains a name to watch in the L.O program. Another high upside prospect who could play FBS/FCS. Consistent, and hard-working, driven player.
