Athletic, versatile and very impressive, the defensive backs bred in the Sunshine State have played multiple positions, but have always ended up playing in the secondary in college and NFL.
When looking at some of the prospects this year, Florida is once again the epicenter for some tremendous football talent that roams the secondary.
As we continue to do year-round, today we bring you more talent to keep an eye on.
Here are 5 defensive secondary performers that have made a difference:
2021 – Jacob Camacho, Glades Central. Make no mistake, the Raiders are on their way back, and gifted football players like this have put them in a position to compete on a much bigger stage, like this program had been doing for decades. Showing his versatility, this quality talent had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown in a convincing win over 8A Palm Beach Central.

2021 – Jaylen Collins, Flagler Palm Coast. Here is another gifted prospect on a team that continues to make some major strides in northeast Florida. A versatile football player who received plenty of accolades from the coaching staff for his hard work and production. In a huge win over three-time defending 1A state champion Madison County, he came up with the game-sealing interceptions plus had a blocked punt and broke up three passes. His work in the classroom is also stellar, holding down a 4.3 GPA.

2022 -Ian Garcia, Foundation Academy. On a program that has done some amazing things this season, there are gifted football players like this young man, who is versatile and well-rounded on the football field. In a game recently, he had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown – plus five tackles and kicked a 27-yard field goal in a win over West Oaks Academy.

2023 – Justin Herring, Interlachen. Whether it’s as an outside linebacker or in the defensive secondary, here is a producer, who comes to play every game. Someone that will do more than enough to give this teams a major spark. In a recent loss to Branford, he came up with the ultimate performance – registering 14.5 total tackles and recovered a fumble.

2022 – Antwan Walden, Lake Minneola. As this program continues to win and make some major strides during this pandemic, there are prospects – like this talented young man – waiting to make a huge impact for this program. Recently, he sparked the team to a convincing win over Tavares, collecting two interceptions along with two tackles.
