One of the regions of the state that continues to churn out gifted backs is Broward County, and that should come as no surprise.
With countless athletes playing at the collegiate level – and with standouts such as Gio Bernard, James White and Sony Michel getting it done in the NFL, here is an area that is staying in that spotlight.
Today, we focus in on some impressive football prospects from Broward County.
2021 – Keshawn Barrett, Coral Springs Coral Glades. One of the prospects who has the opportunity to showcase his skills during this abbreviated season. Is anxious to make an impact and get some film for college coaches to check him out. Earlier this season he had 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Jaguars in their win.

2023 – Mark Fletcher, American Heritage (Plantation). Not much more you can say about this impressive young man that has already been said – and promoted. 2022 – Jerrel Mash Jr., Coconut Creek Monarch. One of the more underrated football players in south Florida, here is a quality and powerful runner who gets the tough yard for the Knights. He is quick, strong, gifted and gets it done in the classroom as well. Had a huge opening game against Taravella, scoring four times and running for 100 yards.

2021 – Joey Vega, Davie Western. While he isn’t the biggest running backs in south Florida, he is a huge talent who is powerful, fast and experienced. One of the top players the Wildcats have on the roster – as he showed in a recent game against 7A power Plantation, where he rushed for 203 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns in a win.
