The Bridgeland Bears defeated the Cypress Lakes Spartans 59-3 on Friday. Their offense was stellar but we’re here to talk about the senior defense averaging these low scores. Largely in part due to Daniel Grisbee, [player_tooltip player_id="60445" first="Bryce" last="McMorris"], Charles Moore, Roderick Gray and Garrett Hurley. They have anchored the defense through the trenches in blowout victories by imposing their wills on opposing offenses. Bridgeland’s D is impressive to say the least and these seniors are a big part why the Bears are undefeated. It’s tough to keep up with [player_tooltip player_id="60702" first="Conner" last="Weigman"] and the Bears offense but the defense sometimes gets overshadowed by the high octane offense. Daniel Grisbee #9 scooped up a loose pitch and took it to the house in the 1st half and after that the defense immediately played a dominant game. Grisbee is a senior who is tenacious off of the edge and is somebody that offensive coordinators have to gameplan for. His game is based on Bridgeland’s scheme to stop the QB pull from the read option. Grisbee does a tremendous job of making sure that his contain responsibilities are taken care of. He is able to make sure that offenses do not get yards off of the edge. Daniel does an excellent job of shooting the line of scrimmage in pursuit of the RB zone handoff. He is excellent at making sure that he understands his spacing on pre snap assignments and is able to know his keys on critical situations. Grisbee had 3 total tackles and tackle for loss but the scoop and score propelled the defense to achieve greater that night. [player_tooltip player_id="60445" first="Bryce" last="McMorris"] #4 intercepted a pass and returned it for 16 yards that was a game sealer. The safety was able to play from a Cover 3 look and 4 option with style and grace. He had 6 total tackles and a tackle for loss. McMorris impressed with his ability to fill his lane in passing situations as well as rushing downs. He was able to manipulate on the field in an effort that led him to being one of the most important players on the defense. Bryce is the icing on the cake for this Bridgeland team and they are able to make sure that they catapult their offense into scoring situations exactly what McMorris is known for. He is a great safety and seems to anchor the Bridgeland Defense through many situations. Charles Moore #41 is a force on the opposite side of Grisbee. He commands the tackle box and always creates havoc on outside zone plays. Moore is known for his ability to rush the QB as well. With 3 tackles for loss against the Spartans on Friday. He made sure the quarterback knew who he was. Charles was in his face the entire game and made sure that the tackles were the first to know about it. As a senior Moore is a leader on this team and is somebody that the Bears defense relies on in any type of situation. It sure is fun to watch Bridgeland kick on all cylinders. They do a masterful job of making sure that the offensive gameplan is blown apart. Moore is the leader of that chaos and is sure to make offenses put more than one blocker on him if they can. Moore will be a big part of Bridgeland’s success moving forward with a playoff berth already under the belt. Charles is definitely an collegiate athlete and will be known by winter. Roderick Gray #44 is another rotating OLB who is critical to the success of taking away the offense’s top weapon the quarterback. These ends know how to create disruption for the offense and are great with knowing when the others need a break after getting up big on the opponent! Gray is a senior rotational player but he definitely a great glue piece for the Bears. He is able to understand his role and it is crucial that when he steps into the game he makes big plays for his team. Roderick is definitely going to be an integral part of this playoff team and Bridgeland will need big time presence from this guy in order for them to be successful. Gray played more in the 2nd half of a game and led the 2nd team in there when necessary. Roderick is a successful part of this Bears defense and is somebody that is under the radar even on an undefeated team. Bridgeland is so deep on both sides of the ball that some players could be stars on other teams. Gray is a prime example of that. It is important to note that these seniors get the most playing time. Gray has been playing all year under the radar. Garrett Hurley #56 is the big fella that hangs out in the middle of the defensive line. 56 is an interesting character and brings a lot of entertainment value out of this Bridgeland defense. He is someone in the middle of the game situations. He makes sure that he is a leader on this team and that he can be understood out on the field. Bridgeland considers him to be a rock on this defense. He definitely stepped up with a huge tackle for loss on a critical 3rd down. Hurley is somebody who stood out to me that made his presence felt on the line. He was entertaining to watch in the trenches talk it up with the offensive line and be physical in there. He is somebody on the way up in this last senior surge for a state title. This Bridgeland team is very impressive and with the play of these seniors they are on their way to doing wonderful things this winter. The seniors own up to their jobs. They know how to get the team going in the right direction and that their time is now and not later. These guys understand that they are contenders and they play with that type of intensity and coordination. I am as always to see what Bridgeland has in store next, we shall see coming up here soon!
