To be an outstanding offensive tackle at the collegiate level takes an athlete that possesses both strength and mobility. They must be proficient at both run and pass blocking and able to handle defensive ends that are big and athletic. I have identified the top ten junior offensive tackles in the country. These players should be able to make the transition to the next level due to their skill level. Zach Rice 6’6” 305 Lynchburg, VA Liberty Christian Rice is a complete offensive tackle in terms of being both a dominant run and pass blocker. He is an athletic and powerful lineman that plays with great leverage while using his hands to control and sustain his blocks. Zach is especially impressive with his footwork when on the move whether pulling and leading on run plays or deep setting on pass protection. [player_tooltip player_id="31200" first="Joe" last="Brunner"] 6”6” 305 Whitefish Bay, WI It’s easy to see why [player_tooltip player_id="31200" first="Joe" last="Brunner"] was the conference offensive lineman of the year as a sophomore. This offensive/defensive lineman is a real difference maker with cat-like quickness and change of direction, he is the entire package. As an offensive tackle he handles movement and picks up line stunts as good as anybody in high school football. His athleticism and great hips will allow him to play early at the collegiate level. Josh Conerly 6’6” 275 Seattle, WA Rainer Beach Josh Conerly is extremely light on his feet for a big man. He is a two-way player that also excels as a defensive lineman where he shows his versatility and agility as a pass rusher and run stopper. As an offensive tackle, Josh displays quick hands and strikes the opponent with force stalemating and controlling his man and driving them off the line of scrimmage into the second and third level of the defense. [player_tooltip player_id="60695" first="Kelvin" last="Banks"] 6’5” 285 Humble, TX Summer Creek Banks is a real athletic specimen with a huge wingspan which he uses extremely well in pass protection in keeping defenders off his body. He destroys defensive tackles on down blocks and shows his agility by getting to the second level and takes out linebackers by either cutting them or driving them into the secondary. Banks displays impressive mobility both in the running and passing game. Tyler Booker 6’4” 300 Bradenton, FL IMG Academy Quick out of his stance in pass protection, Booker is one of top pass protecting tackles in the country. He locks his hands into the defenders’ frame on both pass and run blocking then torques the opponent to the ground with authority. Comes off the line with a good flat back and maintains leverage when drive blocking. Tyler is a very good technician for a high school offensive lineman. [player_tooltip player_id="60688" first="Devon" last="Campbell"] 6’4” 275 Arlington, TX Bowie Campbell is, arguably, the best perimeter blocking offensive tackles in the country. He gets off the ball quickly and reaches edge defenders with precision in terms of hand placement, body position, and leg drive. Pulls and leads on counters and sweeps with speed and power. Devon takes great pride on getting downfield blocks and has shown to be a great finisher by often picking up more than one defender. Campbell goes till the whistle blows every single play. [player_tooltip player_id="60700" first="Kam" last="Dewberry"] 6’4” 313 Humble, TX Atascocita If you have a short yardage play, run the ball behind big Dew. Kam really plays with great pad level even coming out of a two-point stance. He has that second surge after initial contact to get movement. He has good knee bend and balance as he drives defenders backward. Dewberry works well in space picking up defenders downfield. Kam demonstrates good lateral mobility and gives outstanding effort and hustle. [player_tooltip player_id="34373" first="Tegra" last="Tshabola"] 6’6” 315 West Chester, OH Lakota West If you want a human bulldozer at the point of attack, Tegra is the guy for you. Tshabola often engulfs his opponent, moves him off the line, and pancakes him to the ground. He brings a powerful first punch and many times takes the opposing lineman to the turf with that initial blow delivery. He can play any of the offensive line positions due to his ability to execute all the fundamentals necessary from base, cutoff, down, and reach blocks as well as those needed in combination and double team blocking. [player_tooltip player_id="50006" first="Julian" last="Armella"] 6’6” 300 Miami, FLA Columbus Armella is strong in the core and extremely powerful in his ability to be a dominant run blocker. He uses his hands and strength to completely maul the opposition and get movement at the point of attack. Julian may end up as an offensive guard once he gets to the next level where shows the ability to be an interior force and a true block of granite up front. [player_tooltip player_id="33868" first="Addison" last="Nichols"] 6’5” 305 Norcross, GA Greater Atlanta Christian Addison is a raw talent on the offensive line that could play either guard or tackle at the next level. He has good body control for a big man and is a tenacious run blocker. Nichols has excellent balance and body control and enough quickness to reach a wide 5 technique. Addison has a good first punch and can stalemate power rushers. Nichols never takes a play off and works to finish his block.
