High school football is finally back in New Jersey and it will begin on Friday. Here are the top matchups to watch on opening weekend.

Friday, Oct. 2

Delran at Cinnaminson
This rivalry game will take place during the first week of the season rather than its usual spot on Thanksgiving. Cinnaminson will look to keep their streak going while [player_tooltip player_id="27968" first="Kenny" last="Fletcher"] will look to wreck the game for Delran.
Wayne Valley at Old Tappan
This is the matchup we saw in last year’s North 2, Group 4 championship. It was a 21-17 victory for Wayne Valley. John Testa is back for Wayne Valley which is important given the turnover for both rosters. Both teams will look to get off to a hot start.
Hamilton West at Notre Dame
This is a massive game in Mercer County and could be the biggest of the season. Kevin Boswell will return to the backfield for Hamilton West after a huge junior year. This game has the potential to be a shootout.
Toms River North at Toms River South
Toms River North has won the last two and five of the last six meetings against their rival. South last won in 2017 and will enter this game as the underdog. [player_tooltip player_id="27936" first="Jake" last="Kazanowsky"] leads a North offense that can break off big plays at any given time.
Mater Dei at Red Bank Catholic
Matt Lange’s first game as Red Bank Catholic head coach will be against fellow powerhouse Mater Dei. High school football is dominated by the run game but both of these teams will use their quarterbacks in big ways. RBC’s Anthony Boriello and Mater Dei’s [player_tooltip player_id="28007" first="Alex" last="Brown"] will be huge factors in this one.
Paramus Catholic at Don Bosco
This is another powerhouse matchup on the board for the opening weekend. Don Bosco will look to get back on track as one of the top programs in New Jersey.
St. Peter’s Prep at West Orange
St. Peter’s Prep will enter this game as the No. 1 team in New Jersey. This game will be broadcasted on NJ.com because of the intense top 15 matchup. [player_tooltip player_id="27881" first="Tahj" last="Bullock"] will look to dominate one final season before heading to Virginia Tech.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Bergen Catholic at St. Joe’s Montvale
This might be an early big for game of the year. Two of the top five teams in New Jersey will meet at 2 PM on Saturday. This is a must see matchup on opening weekend.
Williamstown at Timber Creek
[player_tooltip player_id="27959" first="Keon" last="Sabb"] leads seventh-ranked Williamstown against the strong offense of Timber Creek. Sabb is the top ranked player in the Class of 2022. Timber Creek landed transfer [player_tooltip player_id="27874" first="Johnny" last="Martin"] to go along with [player_tooltip player_id="27971" first="Donovan" last="Leary"]. Timber Creek’s quarterback is a huge prospect in the state.
Shawnee at Woodrow Wilson
[player_tooltip player_id="27883" first="Mike" last="Jarvis"] will look to carry a dominant defense for Shawnee. They will have their hands full with [player_tooltip player_id="27973" first="Devin" last="Kargman"] of Woodrow Wilson. Both of these programs have seen success over the last few years and a hot start this season can go a long way.
