Friday night’s action brought some wild moments. There were certainly some statement results. A number of teams stayed undefeated, others dropped heartbreakers and some even entered the record books. Let’s take a look at some statement results from this week’s action thus far.
<strong>North Brunswick stays undefeated: </strong>It certainly wasn’t easy but North Brunswick stayed perfect on the year and improved to 4-0 following a 21-20 victory over Edison Friday night. In a penalty-filled game, North Brunswick did enough late on the defensive end to keep Edison from the win. Jelani Devonish made a 59-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Frankie Garbolino for the winners. Edison saw nice performances from quarterback Matt Yascko (20-25, 243 yards, 1 TD) and running back [player_tooltip player_id="27939" first="Qwentin" last="Rose"] (10 carries, 73 yards, 2 TDs), but it was North Brunswick that had the last laugh on Friday night.
<strong>Shaquan Loyal lights up Hudson Catholic:</strong> Loyal led West Side to a 54-6 victory over Hudson Catholic Friday night. He made four receptions for 187 yards and scored on TD catches of 18 and 72 yards. He also made plays on defense, as his 62-yard interception return for a score set up a very nice evening. West Side quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="27999" first="Devion" last="Sheppard"] finished 10-for-12 for 202 yards and threw three TD strikes, with the third going to [player_tooltip player_id="27897" first="Corey" last="Walker"] for three yards. Sheppard also scored on a 7-yard run.
<strong>Riggio Leads Verona Past Weequahic: </strong>Verona’s [player_tooltip player_id="27918" first="Frank" last="Riggio"] overcame a fourth-quarter fumble and finished with 146 yards on 33 carries with three TDs in the team’s 27-21 win over Weequahic. His 2-yard run in OT sealed the victory for the Hillbillies as the team improved to 3-1. Riggio had a 64-yard interception return that set up one of his scores. Verona totaled three interceptions on the day.
<strong>Coleman’s 4 TDs lead No. 3 Lenape: </strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27876" first="Xavier" last="Coleman"] scored on four touchdown runs as third-ranked Lenape defeated Rancocas Valley, 27-7, Friday night, improving to 3-0 on the year. He also had a sack and interception on defense.
<strong>Barth bursts for over 200 yards: </strong>Behind the play of [player_tooltip player_id="27997" first="Charlie" last="Barth"], New Providence went to 4-0 on the season following a 34-28 victory over Dayton. Barth rushed for 216 yards on 22 carries, scoring on runs of 7, 20 and 58 yards. Barth has run for 827 yards and 11 TDs in four games.
