There were several players on both sides of the ball for St. James Academy that stood out during the game. Here are the top 5.
Dakota Burritt QB
The 6’0 160 lb Senior looked impressive throwing the ball on Friday night. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 270 yards with 3 TD and 1 INT. In 2020, he has completed 129 of 220 passes for 1,805 yards and 18 TD with 5 INT and has a passer rating of 103.8. In addition, he rushed for 151 yards on 36 carries and scored 2 rushing TD. He is able to read the defense effectively and sees the entire field. Makes very good decisions with the ball and shows good accuracy on short and intermediate passes with excellent touch on deep passes. Shows the ability to deliver the ball accurately while on the move and when in an awkward position. Displays solid mobility as he is athletic enough to pick up a first down with his legs if he needs to.
La’James White RB
The 5’9 175 lb Junior had a big game running the ball against Louisburg. In the game, he rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries and scored 2 TD. He also caught 4 passes for 28 yards. It was his 2nd 100+ yard game in a row and his 5th on the year. It was also his 5th multiple TD game. He also provided 3 solo tackles on defense. In 2020, he rushed for 839 yards on 130 carries and scored 12 TD. A reliable receiver out of the backfield, he also caught 29 passes for 536 yards and scored 5 receiving TD. Shows very good burst through the hole and displays very good contact balance as he keeps his feet moving after initial contact. He uses his very good play speed and athletic ability to outrun defenders en route to large gains.
Jacob Boone WR
The 5’7 155 lb Senior had his biggest game of the season against Louisburg. During the game, he caught four passes for 96 yards and a TD. In 2020, he caught 16 passes for 249 yards and 3 TD with all 3 TD coming in the last 4 games. He plays as an outside receiver. He is a good route runner who uses hip fluidity to separate and break off his stem at a 90 or 45 degree angle. Displays good hands as he can make on target catches with his hands with ease. He shows very good acceleration to outrun defenders leading to big gains.
Jack Gossman DB
The 5’10 160 lb Senior was a major contributor on defense on Friday night. In the game, he had 6 tackles with a TFL as well as 2 pass deflections. In 2020, he has made 68 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 INT, 2 PD, 3 FR and 1 FF. He uses his very good football intelligence to quickly key and diagnose the play. Displays very good range as he can play sideline to sideline. Uses his good play strength and leverage to bring down larger ball carriers with force. Displays very good competitive toughness as he comes up big on the goal line making a stop to prevent a TD.
Jack Steinlage CB
The 5’8 158 lb Senior had an impressive night on Friday against Louisburg. He had 7 solo tackles during the game. In 2020, he has made 39 tackles (37 solo and 25 in the last four games) with a PD. He also contributes significantly as a kick returner with 300 return yards as well. He does a good job of staying patient while in coverage, uses his play speed and athletic ability to stay in phase with his man and uses his play strength and leverage to make the tackle with ease.
