This coming Saturday in Springfield (OR), National Preps and a host of former NFL/D1 athletes, will look forward to seeing one of the most talented in state groups to convene on one field in sometime. Have a quick look at 40 of the most touted defensive guys, with 19 athletes currently ranked nationally by Brandon Huffman and 247 Sports. [player_tooltip player_id="28831" first="Trejon" last="Williams"] 6-1 190 DB 22’ Jefferson 4* (Offers: USC, Penn St, Washington, Ariz St, Cal, Colorado, Oregon St, Wash St, Indiana, Kansas, UNLV) The #1 ranked recruit in the state for the 2022 class by myself, Huffman/247 and others. He’s a special athlete with some Budda Baker type traits as part of his arsenal. [player_tooltip player_id="28696" first="Keith" last="Brown"] 6-1 220 LB 21’ Lebanon 4* (Committed: Oregon)- At one time the nation’s #1 ranked LB. Incredibly impressive on the camp circuit. The transition from 5A ball to the Pac 12 will be telling. [player_tooltip player_id="28699" first="Patrick" last="Hisatake"] 6-5 235 OLB 21’ Westview 3* (Committed: CAL) Has blown up over the last year, with the prototypical body type that big time D1s are looking for. Made the transfer from Clackamas HS. [player_tooltip player_id="87328" first="Takari" last="Hickle"] 6-4 240 DE 22’ Tenino (WA) 3* (Offers: Nevada) Hickle broke out at the National Preps Reno event earlier in the year and never looked back. Expect him to be one of the most offered kids in Washington before long. [player_tooltip player_id="28712" first="Bryan" last="Cuthbertson"] 6-0 250 LB 21’ Sherwood 2* (Offers: Portland St) My favorite to win Oregon 6A defensive POY honors. The reigning Pacific Conference POY and the hardest hitter in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="28840" first="Kaden" last="Ludwick"] 6-5 225 OLB 22’ Clackamas - Looks the part and then some. Outstanding genes. Played as a Sophomore but the next few seasons you should see his stock sore. [player_tooltip player_id="28721" first="Jason" last="Davis"] 6-2 215 LB 21’ Jefferson 3* (Offers: Arizona St) Went for over 120 tackles, finishing as one of the state leaders, and landing 1st team All PIL accolades. [player_tooltip player_id="28716" first="Dyami" last="Rios"] 6-2 210 LB 21’ McNary 3* (Offers: Idaho, Air Force, Army, Georgetown). Dyami is incredibly intelligent on and off the field (4.0). His ability to anticipate at the LB position is as good as anybody. [player_tooltip player_id="28723" first="Andrew" last="Simpson"] 6-0 170 DB 21’ Mountainside 2*- One of the top three overall athletes in Oregon for the 2021 class. Was the MVP in the Mavericks playoff upset of #1 Tigard last season. [player_tooltip player_id="28730" first="Sabastian" last="Peffier"] 6-2 225 LB 21’ Gladstone 2*- A candidate for conference and state POY honors at the 4A level. Projects at LB but watching him run the football you see how athletic he is. [player_tooltip player_id="28735" first="Brody" last="Reese"] 6-3 295 DT 21’ Century 2* (Offers: Northern Colorado, Valpo)- Reese has blown up as of late and should add a handful of D1 offers before he is done. Projects as a 1st team all-state kid who is also one of the nation’s top heavyweight wrestlers. [player_tooltip player_id="28743" first="Connor" last="Stevens"] 6-3 220 LB 21’ Sunset- Don’t be surprised if you Stevens with multiple D1 offers when all is said and done. He has the size, speed, and smarts (4.0) on and off the field. [player_tooltip player_id="28755" first="Thomas" last="McNamara"] 5-11 190 SS West Linn 2* - Was a unanimous 1st team All TRL selection last season at WLB and could double up on that again this year. Ellias Treloggen 6-6 235 DE/TE 21’ Gresham- Not a lot of people know about him yet but he has all of the physical tools to be dominant. This year will be telling. [player_tooltip player_id="28858" first="Dylan" last="Layne"] 6-2 195 Safety 22’ Lake O- Had an impressive Sophomore campaign earning honorable mention All TRL honors, while backing that up on the 7v7 circuit where his growth and physicality were impressive. [player_tooltip player_id="28866" first="Josiah" last="Manning"] 5-11 150 CB 22’ Clackamas- Really like this kids hard working nature. Had a nice sophomore season, not backing away from any challenge, and earning honorable mention All Mt Hood accolades. [player_tooltip player_id="28734" first="Ajani" last="Jones"] 6-2 275 DT 21’ Grant- Ajani earned 1st team all-conference honors on offense as a Junior but I like him on D. One of the most versatile lineman in the NW. [player_tooltip player_id="28745" first="Jacob" last="Pollock"] 6-1 190 DB 21’ Sherwood- One of the fastest rising players in Oregon regardless of position. Pollock is an impressive kid who can play multiple spots in the secondary. [player_tooltip player_id="28786" first="Justin" last="Hughes"] 5-8 165 DB 21’ Mountainside- Pound for pound maybe the best defensive player in the state. If this kid was 6 feet tall he would be offered by 1/2 of the Pac 12. [player_tooltip player_id="28806" first="Tyler" last="Exline"] 6-3 230 DE 21’ Banks 2* - Another kid at the 4A level who projects as a conference and state POY candidate. Comes super quick off the edge and will require a consistent double team. [player_tooltip player_id="28855" first="Spencer" last="McKelligon"] 6-3 210 OLB 22’ Jesuit- Not a lot of people know about him yet, but people will quickly. Expect McKelligan to be a 1st team all-conference kid and one of the best in the league this season. [player_tooltip player_id="28741" first="Jackson" last="Montfort"] 6-2 190 DB 21’ Grant- Go watch this kids film as he’s really good. Possesses legit size and moves very well for a bigger DB. Earned 1st team all-conference accolades last season [player_tooltip player_id="28785" first="Isaiah" last="Rickard"] 6-2 205 DB/ATH 21’ Franklin 2*- Big, fast, physical DB/WLB who can play on either side of the ball. Rickard provides schools with options at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="28738" first="Adrian" last="McConnell"] 6-3 270 DT 21’ West Salem- McConnell moves very well for a big man on the interior. Could play multiple spots DE/DT/NG for the Titans this upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="28788" first="Slade" last="Shufelt"] 6-3 220 LB 21’ Hillsboro 2*- One of the fastest rising recruits in the state. Shufelt earned 1st team all conference honors at RB as well, just to put his versatility into perspective. [player_tooltip player_id="28846" first="Cole" last="Prusia"] 6-3 190 DB 22’ Tualatin- One of the top players in Oregon for the 2022 class. Prusia earned honorable mention all-conference accolades as a Sophomore, impressing at the CB position with his size and agility. [player_tooltip player_id="28776" first="Dane" last="Sipos"] 6-1 180 DB 21’ Lebanon 2*- Statistically one of the better players in the state. Lebanon’s D has the potential of being Oregon’s best at the 5A level. [player_tooltip player_id="28731" first="Ty" last="Delgado"] 6-2 270 DT 21’ Parkrose- The Co-lineman of the year within the NWOC, earning 1st team all-league honors on both sides of the football. Outstanding kid/student 4.0 who projects as a D1 athlete at some level. [player_tooltip player_id="28864" first="Zac" last="Waible"] 6-3 205 LB 22’ Lakeridge- Waible’s stock is rising quickly. Made over 60 tackles as a Sophomore earning All TRL accolades, while putting size on an already impressive frame. [player_tooltip player_id="28862" first="Nui" last="Tovey"] 6-3 215 LB 22’ Lakeridge- Another individual who could blow up with an impressive NP event. Tovey tests off the charts and comes as a nice 1-2 punch with Waible for the next two years. [player_tooltip player_id="28753" first="Samiu" last="Letisi"] 6-2 270 DT 21’ South Salem 2*- Letisi will be a three year all conference athlete coming from a football family. He is definitely a disrupter on the interior. [player_tooltip player_id="28784" first="Jamison" last="Price"] II 6-1 210 LB 21’ Grant- Price made himself known from an early age and has done well in the PIL. He will be a leader on what could be one of the best teams within the conference in some time. [player_tooltip player_id="28860" first="Zachery" last="Grisham"] 6-0 200 Safety 22’ Central Catholic- One of the most well rounded 22’s in Oregon. Grisham reminds me a lot of former CC & Portland St standout Beau Duronslet. Jayden Moses 6-0 200 LB 23’- One of the only freshmen in the state of Oregon to earn all-conference honors (2nd team). Sky’s the limit for him moving forward. [player_tooltip player_id="28787" first="Kross" last="Galago"] 6-2 285 DT 21’ Thurston 2*- Earned 2nd team all-state honors at 4A Marist last season. A lot of potential as he is still relatively raw. [player_tooltip player_id="87381" first="David" last="Kailea"] 6-2 240 LB 22’ Evergreen (WA)- Future D1 LB at some level. Big physical kid who can hit. Evergreen will be a fun team to watch on both sides of the football. [player_tooltip player_id="28869" first="Leif" last="Beers"] 6-4 265 DE/DT 22’ Tigard- What will be one of the top D-lineman in the state covering the next few seasons. Expect to hear a lot about him moving forward. [player_tooltip player_id="28759" first="Kaanan" last="Huffman"] 6-4 230 DE 21’ West Linn 2*- One of those athletes who could blow up with a big season. Huffman didn’t got a ton of PT on a deep Lions roster, but he can play. [player_tooltip player_id="28752" first="Timon" last="Davis"] 5-11 170 CB 21’ Grant 2*- Timon will be a three-year starter earning 1st team all-league honors as a Sophomore. He has learned a great deal from his coach Aaron Kincy, one of the best secondary guys anywhere in the nation at the HS level. [player_tooltip player_id="28780" first="Tom" last="Mcmillan"] 6-3 205 LB 21’ Sunset - McMillan has great size and had an outstanding Junior campaign, but is still flying somewhat under the radar. The Apollos could be one of the better teams in the state this year because of kids like him. [player_tooltip player_id="28797" first="Ryan" last="Mendiola"] 6-1 200 LB 21’ Beaverton- Another kid that not a lot of people know about. Racked up 2nd team all-conference honors last season. Someone I would consider underrated.
