<strong>Two schools pushing hard for Helix lineman</strong>
Two-way lineman [player_tooltip player_id="25048" first="Josh" last="Simmons"] from Helix High in La Mesa may commit in the next month.
Simmons, who is the <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2020/07/top-offensive-linemen-in-southern-california-1-5/">top offensive lineman</a> in the state <a href="https://prepredzone.com/california/rankings/2021-rankings/">according to Prep Redzone</a> is more comfortable as a defensive lineman and intends on playing on that side of the ball at the next level.
He told Greg Biggins of 247Sports that USC and Nebraska are the two schools that are recruiting him the hardest.
“Coach (Vic) So’oto is a really good coach and there’s a Poly connection with him. I like how he coaches and I think the team is going in the right direction," Simmons told Biggins about his interactions with USC. "I know Kenan (Christon) really well obviously. We played together my freshman year. At that time, we weren’t that close since he was an upperclassmen but we’re cool now. We talk a lot, play Xbox together and he’s always talking up how much he likes it there.”
Nebraska has recruited Simmons as a defensive lineman since the very beginning of the recruiting process, which he appreciates.
"We have a strong connection and they’re one of the schools that has been recruiting me for defensive line this whole cycle, which is where I prefer to play," Simmons said. "Some schools liked me more for offensive line but Nebraska likes me as a defensive lineman and they have been very consistent with that."
