The high school football regular season has just a few weeks left, but there are still plenty of high-level games left that will dictate who will be in the best position for a championship heading into the playoff.
The biggest game on this weekend’s schedule will be in Athens.
<strong>Prince Avenue Christian vs. Athens Academy</strong>
This is the matchup everyone in Clarke County has been waiting on all season. The 5-1 Prince Avenue Wolverines and the 6-0 Athens Academy Spartans.It might just be Single A private football, but the passion is there from across the community. It’s not the highest level of football by any means, but this game will showcase two of the top 2021 prospects in the country. The Wolverines will be led by 5-star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="33652" first="Brock" last="Vandagriff"], and Athens Academy will be rely on 4-star wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="33655" first="Deion" last="Colzie"] who explosiveness on offense.
The Spartan defense has been outstanding all season, giving up 14 points or less in each of their 6 games so far this season. After a 17-10 win to open the season, The Spartans have blown out each of their opponents ever since. But they are going to have a tough time with Prince Avenue, who is the best team on their schedule. The Wolverines high-powered passing offense hasn’t been stopped all season, even in their lone loss to Rabun County.
No matter who wins, this should be an excellent matchup and the winner could be the favorite for the rest of the season to win a state title.
<strong>South Forsyth at West Forsyth</strong>
This is the biggest matchup of the weekend in 7A Region 6. After a tough loss to rival North Forsyth last weekend, 4-star offensive line prospect [player_tooltip player_id="33668" first="Dylan" last="Fairchild"] and the Wolverines will host rival South Forsyth with their season on the line. The War Eagles are having a great season so far at 4-0, and they have had no trouble scoring points with junior quarterback Kyle Durham under center. In just 4 games, Durham has thrown for 943 yards, 11 touchdowns, and has rushed for another 238 yards and two scores.
The War Eagles have scored 63, 52, 44, and 39 points so far. If the Wolverines want to keep up on the scoreboard, they’ll need to run the ball effectively with senior running back Daba Fofana, and they’ll have to get the football to their star tight end, [player_tooltip player_id="33945" first="Oscar" last="Delp"]. Delp has become one of the top junior tight ends in the country, holding offers from Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Stanford, among others.
<strong>Carrollton vs. Paulding County</strong>
After a disappointing loss to Collins Hill to open the season, the Carrollton Trojans have been on a roll, winning their last 3 games. Their 5th game will be against a quality region opponent in Paulding County. The Patriots will be without 5-star linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="33651" first="Smael" last="Mondon"] for the rest of the season, but they are led by strong quarterback play and a quality defense. The Trojans of Carrollton are led by linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="33674" first="Chaz" last="Chambliss"], who is committed to play football at Georgia.
