If you recall the last true contact that college coaches had with these high school stars across the Sunshine State would be nearly 11 months ago. That is what has happened to high school football for much of the state.
During that process, many of these football prospect who were smaller, not as tall or mature, had their opportunity to let nature and some weightlifting take over.
The importance of missing spring and summer evaluations cannot fully be expressed. They are the most vital times in a young football player’s career. You can either be an instant star on the rise – or a failed prospect never achieving what many had predicted.
Those spring and summer evaluations puts thousands of eyes and ears on these “elite” players – while many underexposed prospects go by with no attention at all – and it goes on every year.
So, when these athletes across the state finally begin to play, they are no longer under anyone’s radar. They have grown, put on muscle and weight – and are now considered prospects.
That’s why we check in on those players who many are NOT talking about.
Today, we bring you five athletes – in all classes – to keep an eye on:
2021 – D.J. Arroyo, QB, Cocoa. Comes in this year and will be a major asset for head coach Ryan Schneider and this gifted program. He showed in the season opener by tossing four scores in the first half. Solid talent who hopes to lead them to state.

2021 – Cobie Bates, Athlete, Orange Park Oakleaf. This is indeed a player that all eyes should be on. Can get it done from just about anywhere on the field. Earlier this season he scored three touchdowns, including a return of the opening kickoff. He is truly a very gifted prospects that came right out of the gate this season – looking for more college attention.

2023 – A.J. Cortese, QB, Lake Butler Union County. One of the up-and-coming standouts who can do it all for this program – at a young age. Will use this year to continue to learn and set the table for an impressive future. Could be among the best over the next three seasons. Has already made an impact for this program.

2021 – Jonathan Fairbank, Athlete, Trinity Mitchell. We talked about this impressive student/athlete during the summer. Someone who can play this game at a high level, and many still do not know it. He is indeed that guy, who will help to turn a game around on the field – while making an impact in the classroom as well – with his 4.18 GPA. Was an All-Conference player last season – because he is very good and needs to be watched.

2021 – E.J. Lockett, RB, Sebring. Another big-time talent who is already off to a solid start in 2020. As this team got back on the field and started playing, this young man led the way – like his 230-yards and 2 TDs against Clearwater Central Catholic. Is one of several top-flight players that Levar Scott has on this team.
