Typically I group players together when reporting back on events, but during Boom’s 7v7 finals, there was no way I could possibly have mixed in this group with the other. The list would have simply been too long due to the abundance of talent at wide receiver. Here were the best pass catchers from this past Sunday’s Boom 7v7 finale. 2022 Wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="20868" first="Kaleb" last="Brown"], St. Rita @ikaleb35 Brown showed a bit of everything on Sunday, playing safety also, but his future is at wide receiver. He has a great frame already at 6’ and 185-pounds, but his athleticism allows him to high point the ball. He shows great body control and very good hands. A thick lower half, with room to add on muscle to his upper-body. He made plays all day, leading his team to the championship. Brown just today got offered by Louisville and he’s got many more on the way. 2023 Wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="20836" first="Carnell" last="Tate"], Marist @carnelltate_ Young and extremely talented at this time. Tate already possesses an elite frame at 6’2” and 175-pounds. By the time he arrives to a college campus, he’ll have filled out more. At one point, Tate took a 15-yard underneath route to the endzone untouched, 40-yards and it all had to do with his route and timing of it. Another Power 5 talent, already holding high level offers. 2022 Wide receiver Cameron Pickett, Brooks @CamPickett4 Get on this young man now. He is going to blow up when the season is finally played. Brown has great hands, runs very crisp routes and catches everything away from him body. Paired with Brown, they were a deadly duo. Currently, he isn’t talking to any schools, but that will soon change for the 6’ and 180-pound junior. Pickett should be able to add some weight without losing any speed, he’s got tremendous upside. 2022 Wide receiver Malik Armstrong, Minooka @_Marmstrong14 Long and athletic, Armstrong has a solid base frame at 6’1” and 155-pounds. He’s got plenty of speed but will need to add on some good weight to his frame. Catches the ball well almost never using his body while using his size to his advantage. Runs good routes now and will get better as he ages. Not much on the recruiting front right now, but that should change soon. 2023 Wide receiver Logan Lester, Kenwood @Loganlester_8 Yet another young and talented wide out, Lester is just getting started. Already has a very good frame at 6’2” and 185-pounds, but can add some weight to the frame. Raw but athletic, Lester made plenty of very good plays and runs his routes well. Good hands and body control help Lester make the tough catches. He’s going to be a very good player the next three years. 2021 Wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="20228" first="Kyree" last="Shirley"], Freeport @KyreeShirley A big time athlete at 6’2” and 180-pounds, showed off the athleticism with a back-flip after scoring a touchdown. Shirley is a great vertical threat, and runs some good routes. Shows very strong hands while having solid body control. A fall casualty, Shirley should be getting many more looks from schools. 2023 Running back [player_tooltip player_id="20839" first="Kaleb" last="Miller"], Nazareth @KalebMiller_ What Miller lacks in size, he makes up for in intensity and attitude. On the shorter side at 5’7” and 170-pounds, he’s well put together and the epitome of a football player. At one point Miller lined up at cornerback against tight end Ryan Orput, and didn’t back down. Shifty and has a knack for getting open, Miller is one to watch going forward. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="20843" first="Malik" last="Elzy"], Simeon @elzy_malik They just keep coming in this class, loaded with talented wide outs and Elzy is among the best. A fantastic frame at 6’1” and 185-pounds, Elzy made plays all day. Long arms helped him outreach defenders, while his athleticism gave him even more of an advantage. He should be able to add solid weight, just making him more of a threat. Big time upside. 2022 Carter Sessa, Nequa Valley @CarterSessa Sessa doesn’t wow you with his size, 5’11” and 170-pounds, but all he did was find a way to get open. He ran very good routes. Showed good hands, and was a great target out of the slot. Sessa is very solid and it will be interesting to see him grow the next couple years. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="20878" first="Tyler" last="Morris"], Nazareth @tylermorris2503 A big time playmaker, Morris made plays every time his team was on the field. Had multiple impressive touchdowns and has very long arms for his 6’ and 175-pound frame. Has great body control that Morris uses to shield off defenders. It’s not surprising that he’s already getting high DI offers, Morris is a P5 star in the making. 2021 Jaylon Smith, Hinsdale South @20JaySmith Smith didn’t wow all afternoon but there was one play that stood out like a sore thumb. He went up over [player_tooltip player_id="20868" first="Kaleb" last="Brown"] to high point a ball and come up with the catch. If he add consistency to his game, he’s got a bright future. Smith has plenty of raw ability and is hurt by not having a fall season. He can be a player at the next level. 2022 Brandon Bell Jr., Wheaton Warrenville South @brandonb_jr A great athlete out of the slot, had one of the longest touchdowns of the day. Can add on some weight to his 5’11” and 160-pound frame. Brings a speed aspect to the game and showed good hands as well. Another ’22 athlete to watch out for. 2022 Wide receiver Avante Savage, Wendell Phillips @AvanteSavage Here is a player I think will blow up very soon. Savage has elite size at 6’2” and 174-pounds, with room to add on some good weight. He tracks the ball well in the air, multiple times making adjustments to balls thrown to him and coming down with the catch. Savage has good hands and shows the ability to use his body to shield defenders. Should be a guy that shoots up recruiting boards soon.
