Start strong and finish stronger, that’s the goal for multiple Kansas High School Football Programs.
Several quarterbacks from the 3A-1A classes had big first week performances. Here’s a scouting summary of some of the big games from men under center or in the shotgun from Week One.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35376" first="William" last="Welch"], 6’1”, 240, Perry-Lecompton (’21 Ranked No. 56)</strong> – Welch started his 2020 season on a strong note. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns and for 264 yards in a 54-6 Week One victory over Jefferson West. Welch has a great pocket presence and understands how to win games.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35531" first="Bo" last="Dilliner"], 5’8”, 155, Anderson County </strong> <strong>(’21 Ranked No 256)</strong> – Dilliner finished with five total touchdowns in Anderson County’s 42-12 victory over Parsons. He threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns. He has a big arm and a larger heart. Dilliner has had talks with NAIA schools.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35617" first="Matthew" last="Potucek"], 5’11”, 175, Hillsboro (’22 Ranked No. 78)</strong> – Potucek, a junior, led the Hillsboro Trojans in Week One with 232 yards passing and three touchdowns. Hillsboro handed Nickerson a 40-14 loss in both team’s season opener. Potucek has a big arm and is a member of the Class of 2022 to keep an eye on.
<strong>Torrey Horak, 5’10”, 170, Rossville</strong> – Horak had one of the best Week One performances for a dual-threat quarterback. The junior rushed for 98 yards and passed for 144. He has three rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in the Bulldogs 42-6 win over Centralia. Horak should receive multiple offers has two of his older brothers were recruited by DII schools.
<strong>Lakin Farmer, 6’0”, 170, Halstead </strong>– Farmer did his damage on the ground. The senior quarterback rushed for 275 yards and found the end zone four times. The fast quarterback led Halstead to a 46-0 win over Smoky Valley. He projects as a solid JUCO recruit.
<strong>Tony Detwiler, 5’11”, 165, Central Heights</strong> – Detwiler, a junior, had a solid night running the ball and the Central Heights offense. He rushed for 171 yards and a score in the Vikings 24-16 win over West Franklin.
