It’s about that time where high school players in New Jersey gear up for another season, albeit one that will be unlike any other due to the pandemic. New Jersey will have some very good wide receivers in the senior class. It will be their last opportunity to make an impact in their high school careers. Let’s take a look at some senior wide receivers you may be unaware of.
<strong>Jonathan Toney, Vineland</strong> – Toney caught 30 passes for 506 yards and seven touchdowns a season ago for Vineland. He is elusive and can make plays down the field. He had two games in which he had over 100 yards receiving last year as a junior. Toney made seven catches for 115 yards and a score against Timber Creek last September, and he finished with 118 yards on four receptions with three TDs against Rancocas Valley last October.
<strong>Shaquan Loyal, West Side</strong> – Loyal, a Rutgers commit out of West Side, is a force on the defensive side at cornerback, but he can also do some damage at receiver. He is a tough cover on a one-on-one matchup. He caught 28 receptions for 528 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Loyal caught touchdowns against Snyder, Dickinson, Newark Central, West Essex, Summit, Ramapo and two against Caldwell. He reached 100 yards or more against Summit and Caldwell.
<strong>Miftar Hasanaj, Bridgewater-Raritan</strong> – Hasanaj caught 42 balls for 529 yards and four scores a season ago at tight end for Bridgewater-Raritan. That included a dominating 14-reception, 184-yard performance against rival Ridge where he also caught a touchdown.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27876" first="Xavier" last="Coleman"], Lenape</strong> -- Coleman made 29 receptions for 531 yards and seven touchdowns. He caught two TDs apiece in wins over Vineland and Rancocas Valley and he also scored in victories over Tottenville (N.Y.), Allentown and Hillsborough. Coleman caught five passes for 110 yards with two scores.
<strong>Maurice Taylor, Woodbury</strong> – Taylor finished with 541 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Top performances came against Palmyra (5 receptions for 163 yards and a TD) and Asbury Park (5 receptions for 145 yards).
<strong>Makai Jones, Asbury Park</strong> – Jones totaled 543 yards and five touchdowns for Asbury Park last season. He finished the season strong with 100-yard games in the last three outings of the year. Against Barnegat, Jones had three receptions for 131 yards and a TD. He followed that with four receptions for 120 yards and a score against Woodbury and three receptions for 116 yards and two scores against Neptune in the season finale.
