Last Friday at Mullen High School, a group of coaches, trainers and timers that included Athletafied and Pivotal Sports Performance hosted a free combine for high school seniors to record verified times and marks to send to coaches.
Prospects in the Class of 2021 like Ralston Valley linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="22640" first="Will" last="Lester"], who has an offer from Missouri Western, have seen their recruitment slowed by a coronavirus-related combination of dead periods, the postponement of Colorado’s football season to the spring and a lack of camps or other opportunities to show what they can do. Lester and many others were grateful for Friday’s event and a chance to get measured and add 40-yard dash, broad jump, shuttle and vertical leap numbers to their recruiting resumes.
“This is just making the best of what it is,” Lester said. “If we don’t have a season, you know, at least these people were out here and are nice enough to put this on for us to give us something. You just have to play with the cards you’re dealt and this should help us.”
Nearly 100 athletes showed up for Friday’s free event and many impressed. Here is a look at who ran the top five 40-yard dash times, as well as a complete list of the times each player ran.
Jens Anderson, 6’0, 181.8 lbs, 73.5” wingspan – 4.7
The Castle View defensive back was crowned fastest man at the combine when he flew through the laser-time finish line in 4.7 seconds. He was quick out of the start, going 10 yards in an event-best 1.69 seconds to show his acceleration. As a sideline-to-sideline junior safety last fall, Anderson used his speed and aggression to finish second on the Sabercats defense with 64 total tackles.
Wyatt Price, 5’11.5, 193.6 lbs, 74.5” wingspan – 4.77
A multi-positional player for Fountain-Fort Carson last season, Price accounted for 495 yards of total offense. He threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 158 yards, running in a pair of touchdowns as a junior. He also played some linebacker and finished the season with seven tackles and a sack on defense. Speed certainly is a weapon for any dual-threat quarterback and two-way senior, and Price put his on display last Friday.
Jasiah Henderson, 5’8.5, 152.4 lbs, 72.25” wingspan – 4.82
A team captain and running back at Mesa Ridge, Henderson carried the ball 69 times for a total of 275 yards as a junior last season. With the type of speed he displayed and overall athleticism she showed while excelling in multiple different tests at Mullen High, he’ll certainly be a player to watch when high school football returns to Colorado in the spring.
Ethan Plummer, 6’1.5, 184 lbs, 74.25” wingspan – 4.83
With players running two of the four fastest 40 times at Friday’s combined, Castle View doesn’t look to be hurting for speed. Plummer, a tight end and outside linebacker, has good size and strength to go with his speed, making him an effective blocker who can get to the second level and beyond. He also has the ability to make plays in the passing game for Castle View and should be a force in the spring whatever position(s) and roles the Sabercats coaching staff chooses for him.

Braylon Fenderson, 5’7.5, 142.8 lbs, 72.5” wingspan – 4.84
The lead running back for the relatively new program at Riverdale Ridge, Fenderson certainly has the speed to get it done on the field. He rushed for 581 yards on 54 carries last season (10.8 average) and scored seven touchdowns while posting three 100-plus yard games. He also returned kicks as a junior and record 25 tackles and one interception as a defensive back on defense. When Riverdale Ridge looks to post its first winning season since adding varsity football program in 2018 this spring, Fenderson will be right at the heart of the team’s success.
