Sabetha senior [player_tooltip player_id="49689" first="Drew" last="Schmelzle"] showcased his diversity as a football player in the Blue Jays 45-21 district loss to Holton.
Here is a scouting report from the three top performers in Sabetha’s September 25 contest.
<strong>Three Stars Of the Game</strong>
<strong>LB, [player_tooltip player_id="49689" first="Drew" last="Schmelzle"], 6’4”, 200 (’21 Ranked No 80)</strong>– Schmelzle accounted for all three of Sabetha’s touchdowns and lined up all over the field. He had rushing touchdowns of 43 and 4-yards and threw a touchdown pass. The senior has offers from two Division I schools and multiple other offers. He played in the slot, at tight end, running back, and played quarterback. He also had eight tackles on defense.
<strong>LB, Thad Menold, 5’10”, 225 </strong>– Menold was the defensive leader for Sabetha. He is a quick, hard-hitting linebacker who hits hard and finishes plays. He had 12 tackles, two of which were for loss. He Is just a junior but already projects as a JUCO prospect, who could start right away.
<strong>DE, Riley Lierz, 6’0”, 205</strong>– Lierz is a senior who deserves a chance to play college football. He is very athletic and a discipline ballplayer. He five tackles and a pass break-up in the loss. He could top out as an NAIA recruit but could start as a JUCO.
