Quarterback Prospects 3A Region 1

With the 2020 season starting, I wanted to spotlight prospects from every classification in Florida. A lot of times some of these players get overlooked because they don’t play at big schools, and they deserve the spotlight and the opportunity to be seen by college coaches. Today we look at talent rich 3A Region 1. Big time players are spotlighted below! Bryce Tompkins- Baldwin 6’2 220lbs Tompkins is a terrific College Prospect who was second-team All-State last season. Tompkins is off to a great start in the 2020 leading Baldwin to a 2-0 start, and throwing for 444 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. He’s got fantastic size and a really strong arm, he gets the ball out of his hand quickly and has nice zip on out routes, hitches, and slants. Does a good job shuffling his feet in the pocket to buy time. He has great field vision and knows where to go with the football quickly and does a good job of taking advantage of what the defense gives him. Currently holds two offers from Warner University and Lagrange College Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/9882357/Bryce-Tompkins Jalen Sonnier- Andrew Jackson c/o 22 6’0 180lbs Sonnier is a very nice college prospect, he does a fantastic job delivering the ball quickly and shows ability to look off defenders. He possesses outstanding accuracy and does a good job placing the ball where only his receivers can catch it. He has a nice compact throwing motion and has athleticism to buy himself some time to find open receivers downfield. He currently holds one offer from Finlandia University. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11629325/Jalen-Sonnier Aaron Small Jr. - PK Yonge c/o 22 6’2 205lbs Small’s is off to a great start with PK Yonge, he’s a dual-threat quarterback that excels at running the ball; he produced 2 passing touchdowns and 3 rushing touchdowns last week in a win over Eastside High. He has a nice arm and shows it throwing deep slants with zip, and accuracy on timing patterns. He has good mechanics, but he will need to clean up his footwork. Seems to do well in reading coverages and knows where to go with the football. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10438139/Aaron-Small-Jr Cole Gonzales- Trinity Catholic c/o 22 6’1 175lbs Gonzalez is a dual-threat athlete that also excels at baseball. Has very good footwork and gets into his set up extremely quick and throws nice accurate balls. Gonzales is a dual-threat quarterback that has breakaway speed, good vision and athleticism. Shows good arm strength and nice touch on his deep balls. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11073977/Cole-Gonzales Tucker Tomberlin- Episcopal 6’2 198lbs Tomberlin has excellent footwork. He keeps a shoulder width footspacing which makes his balance very good. He does a very good job on timing routes to the numbers/flats, he shows good arm strength and ball placement. He has enough athleticism to pick up yards on the ground as well. In my opinion Tomberlin’s one of the best senior quarterback prospects in Florida and for some reason is being severely under-recruited. Whichever College takes him is going to get a steal. He currently has offers from Stetson University, Warner University, and Bluefield College. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10964435/Tucker-Tomberlin [player_tooltip player_id="50148" first="Nigel" last="Graham Jr"].- Pensacola Catholic c/o 22 6’0 170lbs Graham is a nice dual-threat Prospect, his bread-and-butter is running the ball and showing his great vision, cutting ability, quickness, and home run speed. He’s more advanced at this stage as a option quarterback, but when he does throw he shows good timing on his slants and has enough arm strength to make all the intermediate throws. He will need to refine his footwork, but he does have a lot of ability. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11508045/Nigel-Graham-Jr [player_tooltip player_id="50135" first="Reginald" last="Allen"] Jr.- Interlachen High c/o 23 6’1 205lbs Allen is big framed dual-threat quarterback that is more advanced as a runner than a passer at this stage. He’s only a freshman, so he’s only going to get better and better with the more experience he has. As a runner he’s powerful, shows quick feet, and has decent speed. He has a strong arm and needs to continue to work on his mechanics, but he does show nice deep touch. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/12919682/Reginald-Allen-Jr Matthew Bearden- Walton High 6’0 160lbs Bearden is an exceptional athlete, he could translate to receiver at the next level. He has elite quickness and vision. He’s a dual-threat quarterback that is an exceptional runner, and he does have passing ability. He has a slight sidearm throwing motion, but it works. He’s definitely a really good athlete playing the quarterback position. Film: https://www.hudl.com/profile/9945605/Matthew-Bearden You Can Contact Shannon Jordan with a prospect or team information on Twitter @in_huddle or shannon.jordan.ib@gmail.com
