Last night marked the 2020 regular-season opener for the WPIAL. Here are a few players from the Hampton/Mars game that stood out and made some impact.
Mars – [player_tooltip player_id="27456" first="Teddy" last="Ruffner"] (SR), Running back 5’9 195: From the first play of scrimmage he had a 46-yard run. He has okay size, thick body. Has quickness and decent speed. They call him ‘Touchdown Teddy’ who scored four times, including a 49 and 31-yard touchdown. Last night marked over 3,000 career rushing yards.
Hampton - Dawson Dietz (SR), Defensive Tackle 6’0 245: Dawson showed to be disruptive in the backfield, with good get off and quick off blocks. He had at least a few tackles and had some impact stopping Teddy at the line of scrimmage or behind.
Hampton – Benny Haselrig (SOPH), Wide Receiver 5’10 170: Looks to be a good route runner who can catch with his hands. Shows to trackball well. He had a few catches including a 15-yard touchdown on Hampton’s opening drive. He may be a kid to watch these next few years.
Mars - [player_tooltip player_id="27699" first="Christopher" last="Dvorak"] (JR) Defensive End/Tight End 6’6 225: Christopher is a tall kid who is a two-way player. He has good get off as a DE and shows good COD and speed. Made a couple of tackles. When playing TE, he is a good run blocker who drives feet on contact. He had a touchdown last night, unfortunately, that was called back. He looks to high point and seems to have good ball skills. It will be interesting to see what he develops into.
Hampton – [player_tooltip player_id="27289" first="Gage" last="Galuska"] (SR), Wide Receiver 6’3 175: Gage made an immediate impact from the start with a good kickoff return. He was mainly used as a jet sweep guy but showed quickness and good speed. He had a touchdown early in the 2nd quarter but unfortunately, it was called back.
MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="27456" first="Teddy" last="Ruffner"]
