Prep Redzone Michigan’s Game of the Week! This week we will be highlighting some top matchups around the state, but the biggest game to monitor in week two will be Brother Rice vs Catholic Central. This matchup has been one of the most storied rivalries throughout the history of Michigan high school football and both teams have high hopes for their seasons after coming off wins during the opening week. Here are some of the top impact players to watch from both teams.
Brother Rice Warriors
[player_tooltip player_id="29626" first="Rocco" last="Milia"] | DB | 2021
Milia is a versatile two-way playmaker that recently picked up a preferred walk-on opportunity from Michigan. He is hands down the best player in this game.
Jake Coulter | QB | 2022
I didn't know much about Coulter heading into last week's matchup against De La Salle, but I certainly do now. The Kentucky baseball commit has the frame of a college quarterback and he played really well overall while showing a solid arm.
[player_tooltip player_id="30262" first="Cole" last="Lacanaria"] | WR | 2022
Those who follow Michigan high school football recognize the Lacanaria name and Cole lives up to the expectations that come with being in the family. He is undersized, but he makes up for it with his speed, hands and playmaking ability.
[player_tooltip player_id="30027" first="Matt" last="Andoni"] | DL | 2021
Andoni is an underrated player and one of my favorites of the 2021 class. He really knows how to use his hands to work off blocks and make plays in opposing backfields. A college program is going to get a steal with him.
[player_tooltip player_id="30217" first="Dontez" last="Fuller"] | OL | 2022
Fuller is entering his first season on varsity, but he is a player with a ton of potential. He has good size and moves really well for an offensive lineman. I think his future is at center where he could develop into a nice college player.
Catholic Central Shamrocks
[player_tooltip player_id="30207" first="Declan" last="Byle"] | QB | 2022
Byle is one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2022 class and will be key to the Shamrocks success this season. He is an athletic passer with a good arm and really solid footwork.
[player_tooltip player_id="29666" first="Bruno" last="Guberinich"] | DL | 2021
Guberinich has offensive tackle size, but I think he best fits on defense where he uses his combination of quickness and strength to overwhelm opposing offensive lineman. The Grand Valley State commit looks like he has really filled out and gotten even stronger.
[player_tooltip player_id="29822" first="Sam" last="Dersa"] | WR | 2021
Dersa is the go-to playmaker on offense that shows solid route running and the ability to make plays after the catch. He is committed to Saginaw Valley State.
[player_tooltip player_id="30334" first="Brayden" last="Courser"] | LB | 2023
Courser is a high motor player that shows great instincts against the run. He is one of the better linebackers in the 2023 class and is further along in his development than most players his age.
Michael Beydoun | DL | 2022
Beydoun just recently got on my radar, but he is a player that could be a fast riser. He needs to get stronger, but he is a solid run defender regardless and I'm excited to see him progress this season.
*Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at Wisner Stadium in Pontiac.
