Some of these teams fell just short of making the playoffs and others are a constant participant, but with the ball bouncing the right way this year and improvement in key areas, these teams all have the potential to make the state playoffs in Florida.
Lakewood Ranch is guided by Head Coach Rashad West, they went 6-3 last season in one of the toughest Districts in 7A. There’s a big quarterback battle going into the fall between Jimmy Kelly and Cameron Madison, both guys played extensively last year. Lakewood Ranch has a lot of key players returning and I think they could take the next step and push for a playoff spot. They’re going to be a tough out for anyone they play this season, they’re very well-coached and have a lot of athletes on offense and defense.
I reached out to coach West about his thoughts on his team for this upcoming season and this is what he said
“First and foremost, thanks for having an interest in our program. I hope we are able to build on last year’s success as a program. Last season our kids were able to do some unexpected things as a team. This year’s team is a younger group, but certainly hungry and ready for their opportunities”.
THE MUSTANGS DOSSIER
SCHOOL: Lakewood Ranch
HEAD COACH: Rashad West
2019 RECORD: 6-3
CLASSIFICATION: 7A District 10
TEAM COLORS: Green, Silver
Key Players:
QB– Both quarterbacks have the ability to win the job, they’ll need to work on their accuracy, ball security, and decision-making, but I believe both of them have the potential to be great leaders and take their team to the next level with
Cameron Madison c/o 22, 49-107att, 535yds 8tds, 7ints
Jimmy Kelly 50-111att, 437yds, 4td, 8ints- Holds one offer from Whittier College
Luke Schraeder LB – Schraeder finished last season with 36 tackles and one sack, Lakewood Ranch will be depending on him on defense and I believe he could double his output in tackles this season.
Travis Patten CB– Patton is a nice-sized corner standing at 6’0, and also show some ability to play the ball in the air. He also had 18 tackles last season showing he’s willing to come up and play the run.
