Some of these teams fell just short of making the playoffs and others are a constant participant, but with the ball bouncing the right way this year and improvement in key areas, these teams all have the potential to make the state playoffs in Florida.
Cambridge Christian is a perennial playoff contender in 2A, this will be coach Chad Walker’s first season at the helm. Coach Walker takes over for Coach Dare, who led Cambridge Christian to five straight playoff appearances. Coach Walker brings a lot of experience having coached at the college level and just recently at Land O’Lakes High. Coach Walker has surrounded himself with an impressive staff including former Buccaneer George Johnson who will be serving as the defensive coordinator this season. Cambridge Christian returns lot of good players on offense and defense, I expect them to be in the playoff hunt all season long.
I reached out to Coach Walker about his thoughts on his team for this upcoming season and this is what he said:
“We will be anchored by our defense led by first year DC George Johnson (Former New Orleans Saints & Tampa Bay Buccaneer) that returns key standout LBs SR Noah Kent (6’0 1/2 220lbs) and SR Kyle Pierre (6’1 215lbs). The secondary will be led by Junior safety Jaiden Bivens (5’9 175lbs) and transfer Chase Creegan who have been impressive in summer workouts. The defensive line being led by former NFL , XFL and Arena stand out Kelvin Kinney has made tremendous strides over the summer. Expect guys like senior Josiah Massie (5’11 1/2 210lbs.) and sophomore Dyquan Vance (6’1 1/2 245) to make an impact in the trenches.
Offensively our OL is anchored by Sr. Center Josh Campbell (6’2 280) and Sophomore Sakae Hall (6’2 289). The WR tandem of Seniors Gavin Martinez, Preston Snider and Noah Froehlic look to improve on last years impressive junior campaign. Going into Pre-season there will be a QB battle with Sophomore Chris Stephenson and Junior Connor Zaragoza who will both be key contributors. The RB position will be by committee with some very talented players in senior Ron White and sophomores Kaden Brown & Josiah Thomas. Expect Jaiden Bivens to help out there as well”.
THE LANCERS DOSSIER
SCHOOL: Cambridge Christian
HEAD COACH: Chad Walker
2019 RECORD: 8-3
CLASSIFICATION: 2A Region 3
TEAM COLORS: Navy, Gold
Key players:
Preston Snider WR– I really like Snider, he is a smooth route runner, gets in and out of his brakes easy and creates good separation from defensive backs. Has good hands and speed.
Noah Kent LB- Kent is a good linebacker he takes no wasted steps, is not caught out of position by fakes and misdirection, plays the ball carrier and plays from inside-out.
Josh Campbell C- Shows a good base and balance, keeps his hands inside and generates a lot of power to seal off his man. Plays with good intensity and likes to finish defenders off. Shows some agility to move in space and is a smart football player.
