Some of these teams fell just short of making the playoffs, but with the ball bouncing the right way this year these and Improvement in key areas these teams all have potential to get over the hump and make the state playoffs in Florida.
Bradenton Southeast was one of the most powerful programs in the State of Florida in the 90s under legendary coach Paul Maechtle who had 283 wins and led Southeast five times to the state title game. Southeast is now led by coach Timmons who played for the legendary head coach and was a part of the 93-94 back-to-back state championship teams. He’s in the process of bringing back the culture of the past and trying to turn around Southeast to once again be a dominant team in Florida. Southeast finish 3-6 last season, but had some close losses. They have a lot of key pieces returning on offense and defense to build around, and I expect them to turn their season into a winning one with a chance to possibly be in playoff contention.
I reached out to the Southeast staff about the thoughts on this team for the upcoming season and this is what said”
“If we are able to play, I feel our team has a shot to turn the corner. We learned a lot from last year’s close losses during this extended break. We are counting on Seniors: Maleek Huggins, Calvin Clark, Galen Washington and others on offense to produce points. On defense, Seniors Damarrion Murray, Jordan Taylor, Isiah and Alex Petifere, and Zion Bellamy-Bay to uphold the tradition of Southeast Defense”.
