Rivalry Spotlight: Roswell Vs. Milton

The football rivalry between Roswell High School and Milton High School has been a rivalry that has been years in the making. In fact, it dates back to the 1950’s. It is one of the top 5 oldest rivalries in the state of Georgia, and began back when these two high schools were from farming towns. Nowadays, this rivalry has continued to grow, and the stands are always packed out when these two schools meet with a chance to have bragging rights against their rival. Last year, the fans of these two teams saw a close game, as Milton beat Roswell 16-12. Both teams would go on to lose on November 22, 2019, as Milton fell to Marietta, and Roswell lost to Mill Creek. Going into this season, both teams hope to get over the playoff hump, and Roswell specifically, hopes to get a revenge win over Milton. Below, we have listed some players to keep an eye on during this years’ match up. Milton Perhaps one of the most notable players returning for Rowell will be Notre Dame commit [player_tooltip player_id="33880" first="Jack" last="Nickel"], who is one of the best TE’s in the entire nation. With this, returning QB, [player_tooltip player_id="33991" first="Devin" last="Farrell"] will also have players such as Brooks Bortle, and Max St. Vrain to pass the ball to. In the backfield, RB Jordan McDonald will also be returning. Each of the players will hope to be able to edge Roswell in this years game, but they won’t be able to do it without a solid defense. Going into this season, fans should also look out for DE Lebbeus Overton, who will hope to have a dominant year off of the edge. Roswell While the Roswell roster has plenty of talent, their kicker, Caden Long, happens to have the most attention out of the entire team, and is a national recruit for his position. Regardless, it will take more than this to get over the hump of their loss against Milton in 2019. This upcoming season, Roswell will be returning FS Dillon Holifield, and OLB Evan Plunkett, who will each hope to be able to make stops pertinent to any opportunity that they may have to winning the game. On the other side of the ball, Roswell football fans can be excited of the potential energy boost that they well have from transfer QB, [player_tooltip player_id="33942" first="Robbie" last="Roper"]. This could be a key to Roswell’s success this upcoming season, and will be able to pass to WR’s such as Micahel Fitzgerald, and Marquis Willis. The upcoming season should be equally interesting, and exciting, not only between these two rivals when they meet, but their season in its entirety.
