[player_tooltip player_id="22570" first="Griffin" last="Lauritano"] said playing football for a Power 5 program is the ultimate goal but he’s primarily looking for the right fit.
In his search for the right fit, the Evergreen senior doesn’t have many strict criteria for where he might want to play college football. Lauritano does know, however, that he’s looking for an opportunity to compete for playing time as early as possible.
Still without an official offer, Lauritano said he has been in contact with the University of Iowa, Yale University, the University of San Diego and Columbia University, as well as a handful of high-academic Division-II and Division-III schools. With his recruitment stalled a bit by the COVID-19 pandemic and extended dead periods, Lauritano has remained focused on his goal and working hard on his own and with Jenkins Elite in the hope that offers start rolling in soon.
“I’m looking for schools that haven’t gotten a 2021 quarterback yet,” Lauritano said. “I’m hoping to find a place where I can show up and hopefully compete either right away or within my first two years. It’s a little slow right now because of the whole COVID thing and traveling not being an option. I’m just trying to stay in touch with schools as much as I can with phone calls, emails, text messages, Twitter, stuff like that.”

At 6-foot-4 and over 200 pounds, Lauritano definitely has the size to place quarterback in college. He also has the athletic ability to play safety, which he did as a sophomore and led the Cougars with three interceptions, and uses his strength and speed to extend plays and add another dynamic to his strong arm and ability to read defenses in the passing game and reading defenses. Lauritano also throws accurately on the run and his height and high release allow him to scan the field and deliver on-time passes to his receivers.
On the basketball court in 2019-20, he averaged 18.8 points and 7.8 rebounds. He is currently sitting just outside the top 50 overall in the Prep Redzone Colorado Class of 2021 player rankings.

He also put up 383 rushing yards and three rushing scores, and had an incredible seven-passing touchdown game in a 59-36 win over George Washington on Oct. 12. As a junior, Lauritano completed 55 percent of his passes for an average over 14.9 yards per completion.
With the high school season moved to spring, Lauritano said he’s approaching the delay as extra time to prepare for what he expects to be a better year for the Cougars.
“I’m really excited about it,” Lauritano said. “We return a bunch of good juniors so I think that will be really good for us going into next season. We have confidence going in that we’ll have a much better year than last year.”
