If you missed our 2022 names to know at wide receiver, be sure to check them out here. We continue that series with five defensive linemen that we expect to blow up on the recruiting trail soon.
Kaevon Freshwater Kaevon Freshwater 6'5" | 225 lbs | DL Northeastern | 2022 State NC , 6’3 225, DL, Northeastern
Freshwater is already picking up steam on the recruiting trail with several Division 1 offers, headlined by Virginia Tech. Freshwater is an interesting case as he plays defensive tackle and 3-4 defensive end for the Eagles but could project better as an edge rusher. He uses his quickness to get in the backfield and plays the run well. As Freshwater continues to grow both physically and as a pass rusher, he’s going to become a household name in the near future.
Beau Atkinson Beau Atkinson 6'6" | 215 lbs | DL Leesville Road | 2022 State NC , 6’6 215, DL, Leesville Road
If you’re trying to find a breakout candidate for the 2020 season, look no further than Atkinson. At 6’6, 215 he’s likely a college edge rusher, but he dominates from as far inside as the 3-technique in high school. He’ll line up anywhere on the line and already showcases a wide array of pass rushing moves. He utilizes his hands well off the edge and while he can continue to improve on his bend, he’s set up nicely for a monster junior year. He has a few Power Five offers, mostly from schools in the mid-Atlantic, but expect some SEC schools to step in soon.
Bryce Dixon Bryce Dixon 6'2" | 270 lbs | DL Butler | 2022 State NC , 6’3 270, DT, Butler
Dixon holds offers from Duke and Appalachian State and already displays an excellent motor and high football IQ. He has room to add weight and strength and will get better as he does so. He’s a patient pass rusher who is never fully out of the play. As he continues to develop his pass rushing tools, he’s a guy that could become one of the top defensive tackles in the state.
Chris Allen, 6’4 245, Edge, Wake Forest
The next in a long line of talented edge rushers from Wake Forest, Allen has yet to reach his full potential both on the field and on the recruiting trail. Allen has been tearing up the camp circuit this offseason and looks even better than the player that was named all-region a year ago. Allen is quick off the line and utilizes his length well to create space against offensive tackles. We’re expecting a big year from Allen, something that should help is recruitment take off.
