The tight end position is crucial for the success of an offense because of the many different roles these players are assigned. North Carolina’s TE class is filled with strong, athletic players, but there are certainly recruits that have been unrecognized and looked over. I believe that the tight ends in this article have the talent and experience to make an impact at the college level. Here are the most underrated TE’s in the 2021 NC class:
[player_tooltip player_id="28620" first="Braxton" last="Barber"], TE, 6’4 and 220 lbs, Pinecrest HS
Barber is a hardworking tight end that gives 100% effort on each play and is always looking for someone to block. He consistently moves opponents out of their gaps on running plays and is seen knocking them to the ground. This player has the ability to adjust his body to underthrown balls and passes behind him, while also being able to make the catch falling down. He is best at sideline receptions, running out-breaking routes, and as a red zone target. Displays good speed and a strong arm. Barber has already committed to Davidson.
[player_tooltip player_id="28587" first="Mason" last="Adkins"], TE, 6’4 and 225 lbs, Providence HS
Adkins is a strong tight end that delivers punishing blocks in the run game. He finishes every play with power and can be used as a reliable run blocker. Mason possesses excellent pass catching abilities and excels in shorter routes over the middle of the field. With the ball in his hands, he is difficult to bring down and isn’t afraid to run over opposing defenders. Adkins currently has one offer with more to come.
[player_tooltip player_id="28578" first="Jayvon" last="Tate"], TE, 6’3 and 222 lbs, Vance HS
Tate is a run blocking tight end that can move opponents any direction in order to free up a hole for the RB. He is constantly giving out pancakes and can be seen throwing defensive lineman off their feet with ease. Jayvon would be best used as an in-line blocking TE in the beginning of his college career. However, he has the potential to develop into a solid receiving option with coaching and experience. Doesn’t have any offers to this point.
[player_tooltip player_id="28572" first="Johncarlos" last="Miller"], TE, 6’4 and 225 lbs, Dudley HS
Miller is an excellent route running tight end that has a very diverse route tree. He has elite hands that allow him to catch balls away from his body fully outstretched, high point balls at their highest point, and make contested catches against defenders. Miller has great footwork at the line of scrimmage and also a quick release. He can finish blocks and be used a pass protecter. Great speed and change of direction, as well. Currently committed to Western Carolina.
