With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Ethan Klocke – Audubon
Many of the familiar faces from an Audubon offense that led the Wheelers to the state title game have graduated. They do have Class of 2021 prospect Ethan Klocke back to work with.
Klocke caught a team-high 44 passes for 706 yards with 10 touchdowns, averaging 16 yards per catch. He also ran for another 206 yards and scored two times.
On defense, Klocke was in on 82 tackles including 60 solo stops and 11.5 for loss. He added five interceptions, returning two for scores and also recovered a fumble.
Gavin Reineke – Boyer Valley
Gavin Reineke racked up over 1,400 yards and 18 passing touchdowns as a junior.
Now, the Boyer Valley Class of 2021 quarterback has high aspirations for this fall.
Reineke completed 111 of 220 passes, averaging over 13 yards per completion and putting together a quarterback rating of 106.3. He also converted five two-point attempts for the Bulldogs.
Tyler Petersen – Exira-EHK
Exira-EHK’s Tyler Petersen will be looking to improve upon his junior campaign.
Petersen completed 77 of 192 passes for 1,075 yards with 11 touchdowns last year, averaging 14 yards per completion with an 87 quarterback rating. He also ran for 136 yards and made a handful of tackles.
As the Exira-EHK punter, Petersen averaged almost 33 yards per kick.
Brigham Daniel – Glidden-Ralston
The leader of the Glidden-Ralston receiving group is Brigham Daniel.
A Class of 2021 player, Daniel caught 44 passes for 723 yards with 11 touchdowns last year. He averaged over 16 yards per completion and also did some work as a running back.
Grant Gilgen – West Harrison
Grant Gilgen showed his offensive abilities as a junior starting quarterback for West Harrison.
Gilgen completed 41 of 80 passes for 531 yards with five TDs, averaging 13 yards per completion. He also ran the ball 136 times for another 744 yards and five more scores.
Not wanting to be just a dual-threat, Gilgen also caught eight passes for 70 yards and a TD. On defense he made 41 stops, picked off a pass and averaged 22 yards per kickoff return.
Layne Prior – Woodbine
An all-stater in 2019, Layne Pryor Layne Pryor 6'3" | 220 lbs | TE Woodbine | 2021 IA will be the focal point to the Woodbine offense this fall.
Pryor hauled in 64 passes for 1,044 yards and scored a team-high 21 touchdowns as a junior. He averaged over 16 yards per catch, but will be without fellow 1,000-yard receiver Brock Leaders and quarterback Wyatt Pryor.
On the defensive side of the ball last season, Pryor made 122.5 tackles including 74 solo stops and 17 for loss.
