Athletes in the past who were freshmen would never find their way on to a varsity sideline – much less play a key role – but this is 2020 – and everything has changed.
Young freshmen and sophomores are now becoming part of the game plan every week, and while juniors and seniors provide experience and leadership, it’s those quality underclass performers who are stealing the spotlight and are being used for their speed, athletic ability and knack of making plays.
Today, we head to the west coast and check out the Tampa area and what they have coming up in the Class of 2023:
Kyle Bowles, OLB/RB, Tampa Jesuit. This two-way standout who helped this program reach the third round of the 5A state playoffs, is a 6-1, 195-pounder that made an impact at a number of positions in 2019. Coming up big as a linebacker, who continued to make huge plays all season. He also helped the team on the offensive side of the ball. Certainly someone who is going to be a force for years to come. The team is already depending on him here in his second season as a major contributor.

Cameron Campbell, LB, Tampa Jefferson. Here is a very talented young man, who brings everything to the table for the Dragons. From his play-making abilities to his 4.25 GPA in the classroom, this is a young man who is truly the future of this program and the region. Watch him play and you are impressed right away with his vision and athletic ability. He is always around the ball. This is a solid student/athlete.

Lewis Carter, CB/WR/SS/RB, Tampa Catholic. If you have an hour, we can talk about this versatile and talented young man and just scratch the surface. This is a tremendous athlete who has already established himself as a prospect to keep an eye on for the future. No matter where he plays, he will get the job done for a program that is athletic and well coached. From the defensive secondary to receiver, running back and special teams, this is indeed a very gifted football player who has three full years to continue to impress.

Cole Highsmith, DB, Plant City. This is certainly a football talent that is the next big star for the Raiders, who continue to produce versatile athletes that make a major impact. Great tackler in the secondary as well as being a tremendous cover corner. His skill level is far beyond his years, and as he matures, this quality talent will be fun to watch. Also made an impression on special teams.

Damenon Hughes, LB, Seffner Armwood. It’s not usual for this program to have freshmen step up and make an impact at the varsity level – and as this quality football talent looks forward to only his second season – his play-making abilities have already been put into place. Quality football player with three full years left to give this always talented and competitive program another elite player at the center of the action.
