From Key West to Pensacola and just about everywhere in between, we look at some of the talent that is not talked about as much as they should.
Today, we check out the Jacksonville area, which is always stacked with talent in the cities and counties surrounding this hotbed for football prospects.
This northeast area has been home to some of the top football players in the state, and as we look at some seniors – please keep in mind that we are only scratching the surface and will be back throughout the year to shine the spotlight on more of this region’s football players.
Here are five players to watch in 2020:
Jadon Canady, DB, 6-0, 170, Jacksonville Sandalwood. Talk about someone who has a nose for the ball with speed and athleticism to get there. This is a quality talent who reads plays well, covers and is very physical. A 330 meter hurdler who is rated No. 1 in Florida, there is no doubt that this is going to be the year that everyone finds out about this versatile football player.

Damien Deloney, DL, 6-4, 250, Jacksonville First Coast. There are plenty of senior defensive linemen in the state this season, but very few bring it all to the table like this young man. Tough to block on the line of scrimmage – and when the ball is snapped – all bets are off. He is relentless, strong and will chase you as far as his big frame will allow to make a play. He is not someone you look forward to blocking every play. He will wear you down and his energy level is amazing. Hidden gem alert!

Demontae Gibson, OL, 6-0, 290, Glen St. Mary Baker County. Low center of gravity and the kind of player who gives everything he has on each and every play. From the time the play begins until that whistle blows, you had better bring your “A” game. He opens holes and will get into the defensive lineman’s body in an instant. His motor does not stop, and that is something that coaches at every level look for.

Brantley Hengerer, WR/FS, 6-1, 175, Hilliard. While this young man plays on both sides of the ball – because of his tremendous athletic ability, he is always looking to make a big play as a safety or on the offensive side of the ball. In addition, he helps this team as a long snapper, and a very good one too. It’s no surprise that he does all that for this program – because he is also a baseball standout as well. All-around athlete who loves to play this game.

Tristen Riley, WR/Slot, 5-10, 170, Jacksonville Mandarin. Get this standout alone in space and watch him fly. This is an outstanding receiver who moves the chains with his skill level and speed. He is often covered by a safety, and that is great new for the Mustangs. Has tremendous hands, runs excellent routes and always finds a way to get open. Tough young man who makes things happen for this football team, and that’s great news as this program looks stay in the mix every year.
