Each player on the field for their team has an obligation to their teammates to deliver their best effort, because in a way, they are responsible for the success of others. Perhaps the most unappreciated group of individuals on the field are the OL. For four quarters, they battle it out in the trenches, opening holes, and moving bodies for the RB, and they even pass protect to the best of their ability to protect the QB. While there is so much physical toughness that goes into playing OL, we also recognize that it is just as much of a mental battle as well. To be able to play OL at a high level, especially at a young age can be very difficult. Not just any large individual can play on the line. It takes technique, and practice. Because we recognize all of these things, we want to take some time to recognize a few OL in Georgia’s 2022 class who we feel have a special ability.
Addison Nichols Addison Nichols 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Greater Atlanta Christian | 2022 State GA – 6’5 300- Greater Atlanta Christian
As a 2022 prospect, Addison Nichols Addison Nichols 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Greater Atlanta Christian | 2022 State GA has already received plenty of attention. Nichols, has already received plenty of Power 5 offers, and this is no shocker due to his ability to play the position at a high level. When the ball is snapped one of the first things you can notice is his footwork and ability to rise into a strong, properly leveled base. From here, he engages defenders very well and with a great use of his hands. He does not overextend too often, but utilizes his footwork to put himself into a great position to block effectively. He rolls his hips well on contact with defenders, but can get caught leaning at times. Despite this, it can also be seen that Nichols has the ability to move very athletically, and that his flexibility, and ability to finish blocks, will constantly open lanes for ball carriers. During the 2020 season, look for him to slowly decide where he wants to play at the next level.
Kanaya Charlton- 6’5 350 Brunswick
Kanaya Charlton is a very fun prospect to watch for many reasons. To start he moves extremely well for his size, and he utilizes his weight and frame to his advantage. This allows Charlton to be a dominant force on the line. He stands defenders up on contact, and allows his hands and feet to constantly reposition himself effectively. Charlton is also used often to pull, causing disruption for the defensive line. While we feel that Charlton can definitely be a bit stiff at times, we are excited about his ability to play great football, at a great base. It is no surprise that he already has 22 offers.
Tyler Gibson Tyler Gibson 6'5" | 285 lbs | OL Johns Creek | 2022 State GA – 6’5 270- John’s Creek
The 2019 football season was Gibson’s first season on the OL, and it was a very impressive one to say the least. Gibson racked up offers such as LSU, Oregon, and Florida State. While he can be seen to be a bit of a thinner prospect on the OL, he holds his weight very well, and displays the frame that can develop and add weight very well. Some of Gibson’s strengths include his ability to play at a good base, while being able to shuffle and redirect his feet well on contact. He also drives his hips well, and allows his hands to be used effectively. The 2020 season should prove to be very effective for Gibson, as he will hope to continue to gain even more positive exposure as he will develop even more into his position.
