It’s finally game week in the state of Georgia and the season will start this Wednesday night at the Corky Kell Classic. It’s a series of games that kicks off the football season every year, and the schedule this year is one for the ages.
Here are a few games to watch for this upcoming weekend:
Brookwood at Dacula:
On Thursday night the Classic will showcase thew Brookwood Broncos traveling to play Dacula. All the talent in this one will be on the Broncos sideline as they are home to some of the top 2022 prospects in the country. Brookwood ATH [player_tooltip player_id="33860" first="Marquis" last="Groves-Killebrew"] is one of the top cornerback prospects in the country and will play at Georgia. 2022 WR Sam Mbake is one of the state’s top playmakers, and 2023 QB [player_tooltip player_id="34009" first="Dylan" last="Lonergan"] has five-star potential as well heading into his sophomore season. The Broncos are hoping to go on a state title run this fall, and they certainly have the talent to make it happen.
McEachern at North Gwinnett:
Maybe the biggest game of the weekend, both the Indians and Bulldogs have state championship expectations in 2020. The Bulldogs of North Gwinnett are loaded on defense led by four-star linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="33661" first="Barrett" last="Carter"], a Clemson commitment. They’ll be without star cornerback [player_tooltip player_id="33662" first="Jordan" last="Hancock"], an Ohio State commitment, but the Bulldogs will still be tough to score on this season. If anyone might have success, it’s McEachern quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="33881" first="Bryce" last="Archie"]. One of the most underrated quarterbacks in the state, the 6-foot-2 175-pounder is bound for a breakout junior season and will have a chance to really impress against the strong Bulldog defense.
Carrollton at Collins Hill:
Another big matchup between two talented teams, the powerhouse Carrollton Trojans will head up to metro-Atlanta to take on a rising Collins Hill program. The Trojans have an excellent defense led by four-star linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="33674" first="Chaz" last="Chambliss"] and three-star defensive end [player_tooltip player_id="33680" first="Khristian" last="Zachary"], but the Collins Hill offense could be one of the state’s best led by 2022 gunslinger [player_tooltip player_id="33893" first="Sam" last="Horn"]. The Eagles also have 5-star athlete [player_tooltip player_id="33861" first="Travis" last="Hunter"], a Florida State commit, who will play both receiver and defensive back this season.
Mays at West Forsyth:
It will be a battle between Forsyth County and Atlanta as Mays travels up to Cumming to take on the Wolverines. West Forsyth is home to one of the state’s top prospects in four-star offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="33668" first="Dylan" last="Fairchild"] who is verbally committed to play at Georgia. New head coach Dave Sylvia has some talent on offense as well, led by senior running back Daba Fofana and 2022 tight end prospect [player_tooltip player_id="33945" first="Oscar" last="Delp"]. The Wolverines are expected to be a playoff team, and a win over Mays will be a solid win to start the season.
