As we approach the potential start of the 2020 season, college recruiting boards have mostly taken shape. Most schools have honed in on their prospects of choice. Still, there are hundreds of rising seniors across the country that will end up playing college ball at a school that hasn’t offered them yet. In this series, we’re looking at 2021 players that we believe should receive late interest from FBS college programs. Next up, our sleepers at the skill positions.

Gibson is one of our favorite slot receivers in the class of 2021. He’s shifty, willing to go over the middle and electric with the ball in his hands after the catch. The one thing going against Gibson from a recruiting perspective is that he goes to a smaller private school in a historically under-recruited region of the Tar Heel state. Still, South Carolina State reached out with an offer last week and we think some larger Division I schools will do the same soon.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28539" first="TJ" last="Ruff"], 5’10 175, Ath., Crest</strong>
Ruff recently committed to Howard University, but we don’t think that will detract some larger Division 1 schools from calling. Ruff is electric in Crest’s option-heavy offense, displaying good patience as a wing back. He probably fits as a hybrid running back-receiver type of role with a college offense but his use is only limited by an offensive coordinator’s creativity.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28582" first="Jamarion" last="Dawkins"], 5’10 195, Ath., Forestview</strong>
No article mentioning versatile offensive weapons would be complete without Forestview’s [player_tooltip player_id="28582" first="Jamarion" last="Dawkins"]. Dawkins lined up all over the field as a junior and is a threat to score from any yard line. He’s shifty but has deceptive power, especially with his strong lower body. So far, only North Carolina Central has offered, but we have no doubts that other schools will join the fray soon.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28529" first="Jasaiah" last="Gathings"], 6’1 180, WR, Statesville</strong>
Okay, so we’re cheating a bit here. Gathings isn’t really a "sleeper" to us, but he still doesn’t have the offer list of several of the guys around him in the rankings. We’ve already written a bit about him in our "<a href="https://prepredzone.com/2020/07/reason-for-the-rankings-96-100/">Reason for the Rankings"</a> but we’re impressed with his ability after the catch and his toughness. A James Madison commit, Gathings will still be targeted but some of the larger Division 1 schools.
