Quarterbacks are getting bigger, receivers are getting faster, and new offensive schemes are becoming more pass-happy each and every year. Now, defensive coordinators need athletic defensive backs now more than ever.
So, today’s story breaks down some of the top cornerback prospects in Georgia for the 2022 class.
Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA – Collins Hill (Committed to Florida State)
One of the top overall defenders in Georgia, Hunter is an elite athlete at 6-foot-1 165-pounds who makes a ton of plays on both sides of the ball.
As a sophomore last fall, Hunter recorded 9 INTs on defense while scoring 12 touchdowns as a receiver on offense. If you were a QB last year and threw it his way, you made a mistake. He’s got great reaction time when the ball is in the air, and his tremendous ball skills allow him to make those big game-changing plays on defense.
He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands, he’s shifty, and he’s got good speed, but his over athleticism is what really makes him one of the nation’s best in the 2022 class.
Hill committed to Florida State in March of 2020 over Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, among others.
Deyon Bouie Deyon Bouie 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Bainbridge | 2022 State GA – Bainbridge (Uncommitted)
Another elite cornerback that hails from the peach state, Bouie is a true cover corner from South Georgia at 5-foot-11 165-pounds. Another two-way player, Bouie is also one of the top playmaking receivers in the region.
He’ll play defensive back at the next level thanks for his natural instincts and quick feet at cornerback. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s big enough to hold down the opponents top wide-out due to his unique blend of quickness and physical style of play.
He has ball skills, he has some explosion, and he has all the tools needed to be a big-time cornerback at the next level. With two years left to perfect his craft, the Bainbridge star has a chance to push for 5-star status in the 2022 class down the road.
Marquis Groves-Killebrew Marquis Groves-Killebrew 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Brookwood | 2022 State GA – Brookwood (Committed to Georgia)
A one-time middle school superstar, Groves-Killebrew has established himself as one of the top athletes in Georgia regardless of class. As a sophomore last fall, Groves-Killebrew stared for the powerhouse Grayson Rams and more than held his own against some of the top receivers in the state. Now, he’s at nearby Brookwood and will play on both sides of the ball for the Broncos this fall.
At 6-foot-1 190-pounds, Groves-Killebrew is an excellent athlete who really looks the party from a physical perspective. He’s got good size, he’s got length, and he has the athleticism to go with it. Like the other top cornerbacks, Groves-Killebrew has some explosiveness to his game and will be in a position to make a lot of plays against a tough schedule in 2020.
Not only does he check all the boxes on the field, he’s also a hard-working kid off the field and does everything he can to do better each and every day. Groves-Killebrew committed to the Georgia Bulldogs in May of 2020 over Auburn, Arkansas, among others.
Dainsus Miller – Creekside (Uncommitted)
He may be a little undersized right now at 5-foot-11 160-pounds, but Miller is a fundamentally sound DB who has the potential to play multiple positions in the secondary at the next level.
As a prospect, Miller is a rangy DB with good closing speed. He shows impressive instincts when playing the run to go along with his nice ball skills against the pass. He has good speed, and he’s a threat to take it back for a score with the ball in his hands. He’s naturally athletic and just plays his position the right way. He knows how to cover, and knows how to tackle. He might not be the biggest guy, but he does have some length to him.
Miller currently holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, among others.
