A pretty unique situation – especially in the Midwest, this means that the prep studs not going D1 in Wisconsin have to travel outside of the state to play DII for a scholarship. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) reaps the benefits of Wisconsin’s lack of DII’s more than any other conference in the nation. Comprised of competitors Augustana (SD), Bemidji St (MN), Concordia-St. Paul (MN), UMary (ND), Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State-Mankato, Minot State (ND), Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Northern State (SD), Sioux Falls (SD), Southwest Minnesota State, Upper Iowa, Wayne State (NEB), & Winona State (MN), the team’s all recruit Wisconsin and year in and year out earn the commitments of some of Wisconsin’s best and brightest. The two teams mentioned today: Minnesota State-Mankato and the University of Minnesota-Duluth, are two of the strongest and most winningest programs in the conference, and a large foundation of their success is built off the pads of Badger State ballers that go on to play like some of the best in the conference. Minnesota State-Mankato
Torin Phillips (Hudson) LB. 6’4, 205 lbs. A two-year starter who also played basketball and competed in track and field at Hudson, Phillips won All-Conference Second Team honors after an eight sack, two interception junior season and bumped it up to First Team and All-Region honors after a senior year in-which he totaled 60 tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions. Colby Hartig (DeForest) DT. 6’4, 275 lbs. Also held offers from UMD, Winona State, Augustana, Valparaiso, Concordia-St. Paul Bemidji State. Four-year starter who also played basketball and golf at DeForest, Hartig played both OL and DL and a conference title his senior season after three straight second-place finishes prior to that. As a junior he was named All-Conference Second Team, and as a senior DeForest went 14-0 and won a state championship and Hartig was named All-State and Badger North Conference Lineman of the year. Joey Goettl (Marshfield) CB. 6’2, 165 lbs. A high academic athlete who was named to the academic honor every year of high school, Goettl played football, baseball, and track and field and on the gridiron he helped Marshfield win three straight conference championships. As a junior the team made it to the fourth round of the state playoffs and Goettl was named All-Conference Second Team after recording 248 receiving yards and two TDs as a WR and 19 tackles, a FR, and a pick as a CB. Senior season he made the move to QB and was named All-Conference First Team after passing for 1,120 yards and 12 TDs and running for 600 yards and seven TDs. Top-10 Plays
University of Minnesota-Duluth
William Faul (Badger) DL. 6’5, 235 lbs. Held offers from Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Lindenwood, Augustana (SD), Concordia-St. Paul, St. Cloud State, Bemidji State, Missouri Southern State, Missouri Western State, PWO from Western Illinois, Truman State. a 2nd team All-Conference pick as a junior and First Team in 2019 as well as Southern Lakes Conference Defensive Player of the Year in ’19. Also was Badger’s captain as a senior and after recording 10 sacks was named WFCA Large School All-State HM. Also played baseball and threw on the track and field team. Senior Season
Brady Herbst (Superior) LB. 6’3, 185 lbs. A two-year starter who was named All-Conference Second Team at two positions as a senior, Herbst helped lead the 2019 Spartans to three playoff wins and a berth in the WIAA State Division II semifinals where they finished with a 10-3 overall record. Senior year he recorded over 500 pass receiving yards and led Superior High School with 58 total tackles as a junior. 2019 Senior Season
Jerod Jandt (Peshtigo) LB. 6’1, 205 lbs. A four-year starter who led Peshtigo’s Packerland Conference in total offense and TDs in 2019, Jandt was a 3x All-Conference pick and finished his prep career as the Bulldogs’ all-time leader in TDs with 49 and total offense with 5,168 career all-purpose yards. Also holds school single-game record for rushing yards (323) and TDs (6) and captained the team as a junior and senior. He also ran on the track team and was a 6x conference champion who recorded the second fastest 100 M and 200 M times in school history. As if he didn’t accomplish as much as he could already, he was also Peshtigo’s class president for 2019-20. What a career! Senior Season
Ethan Jauquet (Muskego) OL. 6’3, 260 lbs. Also held offers from Valparaiso, Rose-Hulman, Dayton and Carleton College. A three-year starter at LT who captained the Warriors to their second straight state title, Jauquet was a 2x All-Conference pick, as well as an All-Region and All-State Big School HM pick. Also lettered twice as a thrower on the track and field team. Senior Highlights
Seth Kohel (River Falls) RB. 5’11, 195 lbs. Also held offers from Bemidji State, Winona State, a PWO from NDSU, Southwest Minnesota State, St. Cloud State (rip). Only played four games a senior due to a nagging injury but still won All-Conference HM awards. Still had a great prep career and reigned as the Big Rivers rushing leader in 2018 on his way to being selected All-State HM, All-Region and All-Big Rivers after rushing for 1,569 yards and 20 touchdowns and averaging 142.6 yards per game. Also served as a team captain during each of his final two seasons with the Wildcats and lettered thrice in track and field and once in wrestling. Junior Season
Cassius Rohadfox (Sheboygan North) DL. 6’0, 285 lbs. Four-year starter who was named All-Conference twice, Rohadfox was also named the team’s MVP twice and a senior captain. He also lettered four times in wrestling and three times in track and field where he placed eighth in the state as a junior in the shot put. Junior Highlights
Tristan Root (Eau Claire Regis) PK/DB. 5’10, 180 lbs. Three-year starter who finished his prep football career in 2019 by being selected the Cloverbelt Conference Offensive POY and was named Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State honorable mention honors (running back) that season in addition to being chosen the Eau Claire Leader Telegram’s Northwest Region Player of the Year. The senior captained the Ramblers to the 2019 WIAA State Division 6 title game and rushed 126 times for 1,066 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2019. He also started three years on the Rambler baseball squad and was a All-Cloverland Conference catcher. Senior SZN
Seth Schmucki (Randolph) P/PK. 6’4, 160 lbs. Four-year starter who was an All-Trailways Conference second team placekicker and punter as both a sophomore and senior and also attained All-Area status in 2019 as a senior. Also competed in track and field (high jump) for the Rockets and baseball as an outfielder. highlights
