Continue ReadingThe state of North Carolina has put out top-end Power Five quarterbacks in each of the last 10 classes. Already, the classes of 2021 and 2022 have multiple signal callers with Power Five offers, but will the trend continue? Early returns indicate the quarterback classes of 2023 and 2024 are as strong, if not stronger, than many of the past groups to come through the Tar Heel state. After watching film and talking to coaches around the state, here are some of the quarterbacks I think could continue the streak.
Andrew Frazier, 5’11 185, Havelock, So.
A strong-armed, mobile quarterback, Frazier earned the starting job on varsity last year for Havelock and held his own against top competition. Like many of the guys on his list, he should continue to grow but already possesses a college arm. Look for the Rams to air it out more this season now that Frazier has a year under his belt. He’s one of the must-see attractions in the eastern part of the state.
Cameron Enos, 5’11 175, Parkwood, So.
Enos makes our list after a strong freshman campaign on JV in 2019. This offseason, he transferred from Metrolina Christian across town to Parkwood, which is accumulating a strong group of underclassmen. Enos possesses stellar pocket awareness and movement and is accurate both in the pocket and on the run. A tight and repeatable throwing motion translates into a solid deep ball and a quick release under pressure. He looks like the next in a long line of talented quarterbacks from Union County.
Tad Hudson, 6’3 205, Hough, So.
The highest profile guy on our list, Hudson already has 12 offers to his name. The three-sport athlete already possesses college size and looks poised to rank among the top signal callers in the country when all is said and done. The pro-style quarterback has elite arm strength and the accuracy to fit the ball in tight windows. He’s already one of the top quarterbacks in the Charlotte area, regardless of class and will look to take the next step toward becoming a “can’t miss” prospect.
Tanner Ballou, 5’10 150, Northwest Guilford, Fr.
North Carolina’s quarterback talent isn’t limited to the 2023 class and Northwest Guilford’s Tanner Ballou is one of the best in the class of 2024. He’ll obviously need to grow over the next few years, but he already has the makings of a talented high school quarterback. He throws well on the run and his footwork is impressive for his age. I’d like to see him throw it deep a bit more this season than he did as an eighth grader, but his short passes have enough zip to indicate he’s got the arm strength required to run a high school offense. He takes care of the ball, posting a 15-3 touchdown to interception ratio last season.
Wyatt Cannon, 5’11 165, Leesville Road, Fr.
Cannon is another rising star from the Raleigh area. The aptly-named quarterback possesses good arm strength and displays nice touch on some of his intermediate and deep throws. He led an undefeated Leesville Road eighth grade squad a year with an impressive 10.9 yards per completion and 23 touchdowns. Cannon already looks ready for the high school level and could even factor in as a freshman.
