Providence quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="20233" first="Kevin" last="Conway"] is one of the more underrated gunslingers in Illinois. He’s been the Celtics starting quarterback since his sophomore season and has led them to back to back playoff appearances. Entering his senior season, Conway currently sits at #20 in Prep Redzone’s quarterback rankings. On-film, he excels as a dropback play-action passer. He has phenomenal touch on his ball and rarely overthrows his wideouts. Conway is impressive as a runner and will run through arm tackles. He lives for the cutback and is tough to bring down once he gets going. Conway has been training hard and didn’t let COVID-19 get in his way this off-season, "During COVID-19 I have been able to train with my quarterback coach. I was also able to work out at home; I have a rack and dumbbells." Providence put together an impressive 2019 campaign that took them all the way to the quarterfinals of the 6A playoffs. Conway, was happy with their season overall, but realized injuries played a big factor in how it all played out, "Last season went great. I believe all of our injuries held our team back from its true potential, but a lot of kids stepped up when needed." The Celtics return some bigtime college prospects in senior tight end, and Minnesota commit [player_tooltip player_id="20268" first="Jameson" last="Geers"] and up and coming junior runningback Aaron Vaughn. Conway also told us about a few of his other teammates to watch for as well, "You should look out for are Nate Ross, Brayden Garrigan, and Andy Degner." Led by Conway, the Celtics should be poised for yet another deep run in the 6A playoffs, "The team is looking good. The team will be young, but I believe we have potential." After a stellar junior campaign, Conway has seen his recruiting pick up quite a bit. Currently, he’s hearing from the likes of Fordham, Northern Iowa, and Eastern Illinois. He’s also visited NIU and Miami (OH). He doesn’t have any scholarships quite yet, but those could be coming after a big senior season.<img class=" wp-image-24511 alignright" src="https://prepredzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/conf-215x300.jpg" alt="" width="253" height="353" /> Conway is ready to get back on the field with his team and see what 2020 holds, "I’m looking forward to playing high school football at the best ability I possibly can with my family." This could be another big year for the Celtics senior quarterback and he wants to one-up his performance from last season, "My main goal is to do better than last year. To be specific, I would be happy with a 70% completion rate and over a 1,000 yards rushing." Conway knows that won’t be easy, but he’s up for the challenge. He let me know he wants to improve his mental part of his game more than anything. Don’t let that distract you, though; this is a very football savvy quarterback prospect who understands defenses. Conway is a very intriguing prospect; it’s not every day you find a kid with natural arm talent who can also run in the 4.6 range. I think his potential is through the roof, and colleges will soon take notice.
