2020 is going to be an exciting year for QBs, and these are three of the best in their respective classes. Each are looking to be the catalyst for their team’s successes this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="20220" first="Tommy" last="Rittenhouse"] (St. Francis HS)- Solid height and weight with a slender frame. Was primarily used out of the pistol, but showed good footwork post snap. Good pocket presence, kept feet active and maintained a good base in order to square shoulders to the target while in the pocket. He also showed the ability to slide and move away from pressure both laterally and vertically. Solid processing ability to get from read to read with good timing and in sync. Displays solid release at the throw point, good snap and the ball comes out clean. Solid arm strength, possesses enough arm strength to consistently make short to intermediate throws. He can throw the intermediate in cutting routes through Zone defense. Shows consistent accuracy in the short to intermediate areas of the field. Very good mobility, when pocket breaks down he possesses the escapability around the tackles or up the middle. Displays very good play making ability once outside the pocket with both his arm and legs. Overall, a good athlete who has some mechanics that could be cleaned up, like shortening his motion, but he has traits that make him an intriguing prospect.
Kyle Athmer (Breese Central HS)- Good height and solid weight with a slender frame. Good footwork in the pocket, coupled with solid pocket presence in order to use small movements to elude pressure. Shows a tight motion with good release/snap at the throw point. Good arm strength, shows good weight transition in order to generation power. Displays the ability to make throws in all areas of the field with solid accuracy. Solid mobility, but is going to be primarily a pocket passer. Overall, a raw prospect with potential. He’s a good thrower of the football, but will need to continue developing his processing to get through reads. He will also need to continue developing his body in order to both hold up and maintain his play style of pushing the ball deep.
Ashton Summers (Mt. Zion HS)- Adequate height and solid weight with a slender frame. Very good footwork in order to stay in rhythm, and on time. Very good processing, shows the ability to process defenses quickly post snap in order to get the ball out on time. Solid pocket presence, shows the ability to move and elude pressure when needed. Good motion short and tight, along with a good release that allows the ball to get out clean. Displays good weight transition and generates good lower half power to drive the ball outside the numbers downfield. Good accuracy in any area of the field, puts the ball in a catchable position along with allowing for YAC when an opportunity presents. Good mobility, can move and escape, while maintain his effectiveness throwing and running. Overall, an undersized QB with a lot of potential. He’s a very good thrower, and has the ability to trust eyes in order to make tight window throws, which sets him apart from most QB his age. If he can show an ability to get through at least half field reads in 2020, and continues to improve in that area, he will be a highly coveted player.
