Commitment Report: Ethan Sutton (Armstrong/2020)
Robbinsdale Armstrong senior RG Ethan Sutton is a tank of a 6’0, 250 lb. offensive lineman who excels as a puller out in space and helped an Armstrong Falcon OL anchor one of 5A’s and the Metro’s most dangerous offensive attacks. With a highlight tape full of pancakes and hard-hits it was no secret that Sutton had a fair share of college football suitors, and the 2020 grad took his time in making his college decision. However, on May 2nd #66 for the Falcons finalized his choice and committed to the MIAC’s reigning champion St. John’s University. He rounded out one of Armstrong’s most successful senior classes in committing to one of #d3football’s most tradition-rich programs, and I was super pumped when Sutton agreed to answer a few questions in-regards to his recruitment process, what stood about about SJU, what kind of player the Johnnies are getting, and more. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy! Senior Year
Sutton with the pancake.NFN: Hello and congratulations on the commitment to the Johnnies, Ethan! Thanks for your time as well. Please begin by sharing with us a little bit about your recruiting process as a whole. When did you begin hearing from schools, how did it happen and what did it feel like, and what were some interesting and important parts of the process for you.
Sutton: ” I first started hear from schools around the end of December and beginning of January after my junior season. The first couple of schools contacted me over Twitter, then later by email. I was kinda surprised at first, I wasn’t expecting to get a Twitter dm from a college coach taking about playing for them. The most enjoyable part of the recruiting process for me was learning about the history of the colleges, and their football programs. The most important part of the process to me, was building a relationship with the coaches recruiting me.”
Sutton in pass-pro.NFN: What made you ultimately commit to SJU? What did you like about the program and what made them stand out for you?
Sutton: “SJU was the perfect fit for me. The way SJU approaches the game is the same way I do. It was just the right college for me. One of the biggest reasons I chose the Johnnies was because of their crazy alumni network. I’m most excited to continue the winning tradition that has been built at SJU, and help bring SJU another National Championship.”
Sutton vs. Elk RiverNFN: Tell us a little bit about your senior season as well as Armstrong’s. It was a tough ending to the year, but you left your mark on the Falcons and their program. What were some big games for you?
Madsen: “It was a tough way to end a great season. It’s was Armstrongs first undefeated regular season ever, so that was pretty cool. Going into the season we knew we could be really good because we had so much experience on both sides of the ball. But the game that sent us over the top was against Chaska. We threw a pick six the second play of the game, and went into halftime tied at 14-14. We ended up winning 32-14. After that we knew we had something special.”
NFN: What position will you be playing in college and what kind of player will the Johnnies be getting?
Sutton: “In college I would like to continue playing guard, but I’m willing to play anywhere that can get me time on the field. The Johnnies are getting a hardworking, super competitive, player.”
