They also are home to some talented football players. Earlier this year we chatted with Aidan Kingsbury, who is one is an OL/DL that’s an under the radar scholarship level talent for the Beacons. Today, we chat with Jaden Quast who plays multiple positions for the Beacons and also owned the top average yards per punt (43) in the state of Minnesota last year. We chatted with Jaden about his journey as a Beacon, his recruiting interest, and much more in this Tuesday evening recruiting report.
Get to Know Jaden Quast
Quast defines the ATH position, lining up at wide receiver, defensive back, and punter for the Concordia Academy. Not only was he a top punter last season, but he also is tied for 6th all-time for interceptions via the MSHSL as he’s played varsity football since the 8th grade. His top strength at the defensive back position is being able to read the offense with ease. ” I was able to see tendencies when I was watching the film in preparation for two different district games and there were a few noticeable tendencies I was able to see and directly applied that to the games in real-time,” Quast said about his eye for reading offenses in big games last season.
Bests At His Positions
Quast’s “bests” about playing defensive back sounds similar to a game of Madden. Getting an interception has always been a favorite for Jaden, but launching the “hit stick for forced turnovers,” is key for Jaden and the Beacons defense to deflating the opposing offense and getting their offense back on the field. “When you just smack a guy going up for the ball, it’s the best feeling ever,” Jaden said about his love of laying the wood. In the #ForTheBrand scheme of things for Quast, pinning the ball deep inside their opponent’s territory is a direct sign for Quast that he’s “done the job,” for his entire team.
College Interest
Jaden’s recruiting interest has been all over the board when it comes to the programs recruiting him. “I’ve been in contact with Wisconsin’s special teams assistant about the punting position and discussing what recruitment looks like during these tough times,” Quast told us at NFN. He’s also gotten junior day invites from the likes of Concordia-St. Paul and Bethel, for his play on both offense and defense. He’s also shown his hungriness to play at the next level, sending plenty of film to many college coaches and having texting conversations with them too. For his elevator pitch, Quast had this to say for those programs out there:
My desire to play college ball is strong, so I am putting in the work to get myself out there.
Offseason Work Ons
Quast has spent plenty of time in the weight room this offseason, lifting it upmost of 5 times per week. Quast is well aware as a three-sport athlete that every sport wants you to lift differently and he knows although he loves those other sports like basketball, he wants to stay “football ready”. Jaden isn’t one of those players that started high school and got into lifting, he’s been lifting well before high school sports started. He’s certainly noticed the results of his strong lifting effort he’s given this offseason and he remains focused to this day.
Jaden’s Mentors
With having two key mentors in his football life, the people around Jaden Quast know how to help him accomplish his goal of becoming a Division I athlete. “My dad and Concordia Academy offensive line coach Chase Duwenhoegger have kept me motivated especially in the weight room.”
Learning About Yourself as a Player/2020 Goals
Quast understands with being a football player, you cannot take the time you have for granted. “You have to play every play like it’s your last, you have to play so hard that it hurts to get up in the morning and most importantly, you need to love your brothers on the team like they are your blood,” Quast said about what the game of football is all about. A personal goal Quast hopes to crack next season is to get his name into the top 3 for interceptions in Minnesota all time. What goal did I love that’s even better than that? Quast wants to get to know every single player on the Beacons roster as he said as they are “like my brothers,” and they can hopefully get the Beacons to an even more elite level next season.
What I liked most about Quast’s film is how it shows off all of the key positions he plays for the Beacons, especially his vision for where the football is going on defense (click here)
