In addition to that line, Kons stated that things get stressful, and the mix of emotions that come with the pressure of choosing a college to play football at while being wooed by some of the Midwest’s best scholarship programs cannot be easy to deal with. Luckily, the Park stud won’t have to be stressed any longer, as he has decided to commit to the University of Sioux Falls to play Division II football in the NSIC. The Coo have been plucking some of Minnesota’s best recruits out of the state for the 2020 recruiting cycle, as (Champlin Park), Alex Tack (Monticello), Sam Quick (Totino-Grace), Ethan Sailer (Rochester Lourdes), Mark Leonard (Rochester Century), and now Kons are all joining the ranks of Sioux Falls’ ballers to come from Minnesota. The senior football and lacrosse standout was kind enough to give Northstar Football News some of his time to talk about his All-Conference & All-District 2019 season, which Wisconsin school was the first program to contact him, what position he’ll play in college, and more! Congratulations, Carson! #winnerswin Senior Year Hudl
NFN: Hello and congratulations on the commitment, Carson! Thank you for your time. Please start by telling us a little bit about your recruitment process as a whole. When did you start hearing from schools? And who contacted you first?
Kons: “The recruiting process was stressful, but also very fun. Stressful because I have to choose where I will be going for the next four years, and fun because there’s nothing better than feeling wanted. The process started last spring, as I was getting looked at for lacrosse and football. River Falls was the first school that gave me a chance for football. After River Falls offered me I didn’t hear from another college until after football started. I really started hearing from a lot of schools after I released my ‘first 3 games’ film, after that I started to get a little attention.”
NFN: Intersting. And go Falcons. What made you commit to Sioux Falls? What did you like about the program, and made them stand out for you?
Kons: “The main reason that I picked Sioux Falls is because it felt like it could be my home away from home, not to mention the fact that they have an amazing football program. The main thing that stood out to me is there winning mentality and the community around them.”
NFN: Forsure. What do you like about playing football in Minnesota? Did that factor into the process at all?
Kons: “one thing I like about playing football in Minnesota is that you know when it’s football season just by the weather. Nothing is better than a Minnesota fall. It was a huge factor in the recruiting process. I didn’t want to go super far away, but I did want some space.”
NFN: Great answer. Tell me about your season as well as Park’s? What were some big games and how was your season personally?
Kons: “I think our season was just fine with how our circumstance was. We got a new coaching staff, and a new playbook for both sides of the ball.
Kons w/ the TD!We only had 3 1/2 months to get both sides down before our first game and I think it was a great first step for the future Wolfpack. I think the biggest game was the first game against Mahtomedi. Nobody thought we were going to walk out of there with a win, but we never gave up and came out on top. For me personally this was the most fun I’ve ever had in a single football season. Everything was just going how you want your senior season to go. I was a captain, I was making big plays on both sides of the ball, I was on homecoming court, and I got to play one more season with the guys that I’ve been playing with since 3rd grade. I will definitely never forget this season.”
NFN: Awesome. So last but not least, what position will you be playing in college? What kind of player is Sioux Falls getting?
Kons: “I will be playing running back at the University of Sioux Falls. I would say Sioux Falls is getting a quick, and shifty running back that can make explosive plays. Not only that, but a player that will never give up no matter what.”
They are no doubt getting an explosive player. Congratulations again and good luck in #CooFalls, Carson!
