Continue ReadingUpon attending Eden Prairie’s conference matchup versus Edina in early October of 2019 the very first player to stand out amongst both teams and catch my eye was 6’3, 240 lb. DE/DT Trent Jones II. The c/o of ’21 stud was all over the field that Friday night against the Hornets, was playing gap sound football to stuff the run while showing good burst and bend as EP’s pass-rushing specialist.
Jones (9) with the tackle. These abilities translated all thought the ’19 season, as Jones recorded sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, and a defensive TD for the stingy Eagle defense in his junior season. I was lucky enough to score an interview with the defensive end wherein we discussed playing football for Coach Mike Grant, EP’s “down year” in ’19, and his recruitment hopes! Enjoy! Junior Year Hudl
NFN: Hello and thank you for your time, Trent! Please start by introducing yourself and telling our readers at Northstar Football News what you like about playing football for Eden Prairie!
Jones II: “I moved around a lot as a child but for most of my life I lived in Florida. I started playing football at the age of five. Playing in the EP program is very good. You have high expectations at all times because it’s a winning culture. We work a lot all offseason. I think we have the best weight lifting program in high school for all of Minnesota. One of the big reasons we are successful is because of that with the help of Coach Freese.”
NFN: Now please get into the 2019 season for the Eagles, as well as what we should expect in 2020?
Jones II: “This season we started strong, then we lost two games in a row to Wayzata and Edina. We came back the next game and beat Prior Lake 35-0 and then beat STMA. So we had a lot of momentum going into the playoffs. We took care of business in the first round, but lost in overtime in the second which really hurt us. Next year we have high expectations. We’re bringing back 15 starters, so we think we have a good chance of going all the way next year.”
NFN: Well said, I can’t wait. What’s up with recruiting and who are you planning on visiting in the offseason?
Jones II: “I want to play D1 football in college. I’ve talked to Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota, NDSU, SDSU, and North Dakota. I have no visits planned yet, but whatever junior day I’m invited to I’ll go.”
Make sure to keep track of #9 for the Eagles in 2020, as they have a good history with putting out successful pass rushers and Jones is poised for a big senior season!
